Pierre Frey’s colourful fabrics
Delightful Décors
some 70 international houses of decoration, all participating
in the sixth consecutive Paris Deco Off…, are opening up their
showrooms and collections to professional decorators and the
general public alike. Held this year from January 22nd to January
26th, the event offers a unique opportunity to explore the
aesthetic universe of decoration in one of its cradles, Paris. Creators
of fabrics, light fixtures, carpets, trimmings and more enable you
to enter into the world of their current and past collections while
offering a glimpse into their know-how and craft. The event offers
a convivial way of discovering the world of decoration in Paris and
this year the event’s figurehead is the toucan, which will unveil its
panoply of colours in a warm and festive atmosphere.
Participants will be paying special attention to their window
decorations drawing their inspiration from expressions based on
colour: “rose-tinted glasses”, “it’s black and white”, or “feeling blue”. a
celebrity jury will select the most stunning window while gigantic
lamps designed by the participating designers and decoration
editors will light your way through the Left and right Bank venues.
Leading names in decoration are all taking part in the event and
include Christian Fischbacher, Manuel Canovas, Lorca and Pierre
Frey, which is celebrating its 80th birthday this year with a host
of new collections, but one can also discover some exclusive
houses like Evitavonni of London, which creates interiors of muted
elegance or Declercq Passementiers an establishment which
makes trimmings for the likes of the Chateau of Versailles. some
of the houses hail from further a field like the U.s. based Donghia,
known for the high quality and durability of its textiles which
range from the sophisticated to the simple, from the familiar to the
exotic, it will be presenting its Past Perfect collection.
The house of Braquenié, founded in 1824, earned its renown
during the second Empire. The firm’s style was rich and
opulent showcasing strong colours like fuchsia, peacock blue,
canary yellow and this year the house is celebrating a return
to this lush style. and when museums and historical châteaux
require intricate trimmings they inevitably turn to Declercq
Passementiers. The house, whose story began back in 1852, is
currently run by the sixth generation of the family, incarnated
by Jérôme and Elisa Declercq. ancestral methods are used in
the intricate processes of weaving, embroidering and twisting
threads to create braids, fringes, tassels and a host of fine
finishing touches. and this year the house is embarking on a new
journey by presenting trimmings that literally come to light in
a stunning innovation in which fringes, ropes and tiebacks are
illuminated to create magical settings.
