MEMBER SERVICES<br />

WEBSITE http://www.asum.com.au<br />

The ASUM website is be<strong>in</strong>g developed as an educational<br />

portal from which members can access a range of<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternational learn<strong>in</strong>g resources <strong>in</strong> addition to those<br />

developed by ASUM. It is the first port of call <strong>for</strong> <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation<br />

about ASUM and its services. ASUM’s website is a public<br />

site, but access to certa<strong>in</strong> sections is restricted to members.<br />

The website <strong>in</strong>cludes a noticeboard, and sections that<br />

provide <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation about ASUM, the calendar, policies and<br />

statements, meet<strong>in</strong>gs, education, the DMU, the <strong>Ultrasound</strong><br />

Bullet<strong>in</strong>, educational resources, employment services and<br />

MOSIPP. Pr<strong>in</strong>table registration <strong>for</strong>ms are available on-l<strong>in</strong>e<br />

<strong>for</strong> most ASUM meet<strong>in</strong>gs. The employment services section<br />

is a public site but advertis<strong>in</strong>g on this site is a free service to<br />

members only. Members participat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the MOSIPP<br />

program can enter their own data on-l<strong>in</strong>e us<strong>in</strong>g the MOSIPP<br />

Diary and Handbook section.<br />

New features available <strong>in</strong> late 2003 will <strong>in</strong>clude an Onl<strong>in</strong>e<br />

Cl<strong>in</strong>ical Handbook and the facility <strong>for</strong> members to change<br />

their address details.<br />

ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING<br />

The Annual Scientific Meet<strong>in</strong>g is hosted, <strong>in</strong> turn, by most<br />

branches of ASUM. Internationally recognised speakers are<br />

carefully selected to ensure that members are exposed to<br />

<strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation about current developments <strong>in</strong> ultrasound, and<br />

<strong>in</strong>vitations are issued to those who wish to proffer papers<br />

and posters. The Annual Scientific Meet<strong>in</strong>g is wellsupported<br />

by the trade with a comprehensive display of<br />

current technology and specialist staff.<br />

MOSIPP<br />

MOSIPP is ASUM’s cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g professional development<br />

program. It is a diary-based program, which recognises the<br />

learn<strong>in</strong>g activities that members choose to undertake <strong>in</strong> order<br />

to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> professional competence. All members are<br />

eligible to participate <strong>in</strong> the MOSIPP program. Accredited<br />

Medical Sonographers can use MOSIPP to satisfy all CPD<br />

requirements of the ASAR.<br />

ULTRASOUND BULLETIN<br />

The <strong>Ultrasound</strong> Bullet<strong>in</strong> is issued quarterly. The first issue<br />

was published <strong>in</strong> February 1998. The content <strong>in</strong>cludes<br />

review articles, orig<strong>in</strong>al research, technical features, case<br />

reports, book reviews and other educational material. The<br />

<strong>Ultrasound</strong> Bullet<strong>in</strong> provides an excellent opportunity <strong>for</strong><br />

the publication of work relat<strong>in</strong>g to the practice of medical<br />

ultrasound.<br />

The <strong>Ultrasound</strong> Bullet<strong>in</strong> is ASUM’s official publication and<br />

carries notices of decisions of the Council with respect to<br />

the policies and activities of the society, as well as the<br />

positions adopted by the policy <strong>in</strong> relation to events which<br />

impact on the practice of Medical <strong>Ultrasound</strong>.<br />

EDUCATION RESOURCES<br />

The “ASUM Image Database” is an ever-grow<strong>in</strong>g library of<br />

examples and teach<strong>in</strong>g cases designed <strong>for</strong> members to use<br />

as reference set, and as a resource <strong>for</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g. Two CDs<br />

were issued free to all members <strong>in</strong> 2001 and 2002. These,<br />

together with additional material will be published onl<strong>in</strong>e<br />

<strong>in</strong> 2003.<br />

Anna Parsons Lecture Series. Titles: Endometrial Assessment,<br />

Chronic Pelvic Pa<strong>in</strong>, Sonographic Workup of Premenopausal<br />

Bleed<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>Ultrasound</strong> of the Uterus and Ovary <strong>in</strong><br />

Postmenopausal women, <strong>Ultrasound</strong> and Infertility<br />

Posters<br />

The 18-20 Week Obstetric <strong>Ultrasound</strong> Exam<strong>in</strong>ation. The<br />

collection of images and <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation on this poster is<br />

<strong>in</strong>tended to reflect the <strong>Australasian</strong> <strong>Society</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Ultrasound</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong> Medic<strong>in</strong>e guidel<strong>in</strong>es <strong>for</strong> the 18-20 week obstetric<br />

ultrasound exam<strong>in</strong>ation.<br />

A Transthoracic Echocardiographic Protocol <strong>for</strong> the Non-<strong>in</strong>vasive<br />

Cardiovascular Laboratory. This poster is designed as a<br />

teach<strong>in</strong>g resource and a start<strong>in</strong>g po<strong>in</strong>t from which<br />

echocardiographic exam<strong>in</strong>ations can be extended to test<br />

cl<strong>in</strong>ical hypotheses or evaluate suspected pathologies<br />

dur<strong>in</strong>g exam<strong>in</strong>ation.<br />

Dynamic Transper<strong>in</strong>eal Sonography: Detection of Pelvic Floor<br />

Pathology. This poster describes a non <strong>in</strong>vasive ultrasound<br />

technique which may enhance, or <strong>in</strong> some practices provide<br />

an alternative to the traditional methods of imag<strong>in</strong>g pelvic<br />

floor dynamics.<br />

The 18-20 Week Obstetric <strong>Ultrasound</strong> Exam<strong>in</strong>ation, by<br />

Kather<strong>in</strong>e Devonald and David Ellwood. This educational<br />

video program describes and illustrates the guidel<strong>in</strong>es<br />

recommended by the <strong>Australasian</strong> <strong>Society</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Ultrasound</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong> Medic<strong>in</strong>e when per<strong>for</strong>m<strong>in</strong>g an Obstetric <strong>Ultrasound</strong> scan<br />

<strong>in</strong> the mid trimester of pregnancy.<br />

High Resolution Breast <strong>Ultrasound</strong>: A Toshiba Initiative <strong>for</strong> better<br />

Education, by Jack Jell<strong>in</strong>s, 1996 (Image Teach<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Technologies). An educational videotape of real-time breast<br />

ultrasound which illustrates: Imag<strong>in</strong>g Pr<strong>in</strong>ciples,<br />
