SENIOR CLINICAL VASCULAR SCIENTIST<br />

£23 - £30k MLSO 3/4 depend<strong>in</strong>g on experience (Ref: S/48/03)<br />

St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust is one of the largest healthcare providers <strong>in</strong> the United K<strong>in</strong>gdom with around 1170 beds and treat<strong>in</strong>g around 80,000<br />

<strong>in</strong>patient and day cases, and over 300,000 outpatients annually. The Trust employs over 4000 staff <strong>in</strong>corporat<strong>in</strong>g 575 Medical & Dental Staff.<br />

The non-<strong>in</strong>vasive diagnostic vascular service at St Georges Hospital is a recently established and expand<strong>in</strong>g service. The service is based <strong>in</strong> the department<br />

of vascular surgery. The recently refurbished vascular laboratory is situated <strong>in</strong> the department of surgery close to the vascular surgical ward. The laboratory<br />

is spacious and air-conditioned and is equipped with an ATL 5000 colour duplex ultrasound mach<strong>in</strong>e. In addition to the laboratory, the service has a satellite<br />

room that operates <strong>in</strong> the radiology department. We work closely with the four consultant vascular surgeons and <strong>in</strong>terventional radiology team. At present the<br />

service is provided by two experienced cl<strong>in</strong>ical vascular scientists and a recently appo<strong>in</strong>ted graduate tra<strong>in</strong>ee. We are now seek<strong>in</strong>g an experienced scientist to<br />

complete the team and we are <strong>in</strong>tend<strong>in</strong>g to purchase a second duplex scanner this year.<br />

The service carries out <strong>in</strong>vestigations across the full range of vascular exam<strong>in</strong>ations <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the upper/lower limb venous and arterial studies, carotid/<br />

vertebral artery, surveillance <strong>for</strong> ve<strong>in</strong> grafts, transcranial Doppler, <strong>in</strong>traoperative exams and endovascular procedures. The department has a dynamic, friendly<br />

atmosphere and has recently appo<strong>in</strong>ted a new professor of vascular surgery. There will be opportunities to take part <strong>in</strong> ongo<strong>in</strong>g research project and teach<strong>in</strong>g/<br />

demonstrat<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

We are look<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> an experienced cl<strong>in</strong>ical vascular scientist to jo<strong>in</strong> our grow<strong>in</strong>g team. We would prefer applicants with Australian accreditation and a m<strong>in</strong>imum<br />

of 2-3 years experience, but would consider applications from persons who can demonstrate satisfactory practical experience <strong>in</strong> vascular technology and holds a<br />

BSc or equivalent biological/physiological/physics qualification. If not yet, accredited additional tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g will be provided where required and candidates will be<br />

positively encouraged to study <strong>for</strong> the <strong>Society</strong> of Vascular Technology Accreditation (AVS). In addition to cl<strong>in</strong>ical duties the candidate would be expected to be<br />

<strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g of junior staff, departmental research projects and some adm<strong>in</strong>istration duties. A full time adm<strong>in</strong>istrator supports the service.<br />

British passport or residency would be preferable but we would consider arrang<strong>in</strong>g work permits <strong>for</strong> applicants wish<strong>in</strong>g to stay <strong>for</strong> 2 years. For <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mal<br />
