Rank
The rank uses the Grade Point Average (GPA) calculation to quantify the overall academic achievement of a student in a
single year and a final cumulative rank. The GPA calculation is used for ranking graduating students and is often
requested on applications for awards, recognitions, certain memberships or positions, scholarships, and on college
applications. This rank value is determined by the grades a student earns and by the level of difficulty of the courses
taken.
Grade Point Average (GPA) Calculation
GPA is computed using the above quality points. Beginning with grade eight, high school specific subjects, whether
passed or failed, are included in the computation. A minimum of 26 credits is required for graduation. In addition,
beginning in 2012, a community service (CSER) requirement of twenty hours per school year was implemented.
(Service hours are documented on the transcript.) Honors classes are weighted by .5 point. College Dual Credit
classes are weighted by one point. Percentages are recorded on the transcript, and GPA is computed in June.
