Themuseum's mission is dedicated to motivating children and adults of all backgrounds and abilities toward greatercreativity and understanding of themselves and the world through hands-on learning. Volunteer opportunitiesinclude gallery interpreter, greeters and information desk facilitators. We encourage a 2-4 hour time commitment.Amazement Square's hours of operation are: Tuesday - Saturday 10am to 5pm, and every second and fourthSaturday from 10am to 8:00pm. Sunday from 1pm-5pm.HUMANE SOCIETY FOR CAMPBELLL COUNTYSupervisors: Matt Smith (665-5218)Mission statement: The HSCC does not have its own animal care facility. We are a group of caring volunteers whosupport and work with the Campbell County Animal Control Facility. Our goal is to reduce the numbers ofunwanted, lost and stray animals euthanized in our county by increasing adoptions, and promoting spays andneuters of companion pets. We do this through adoption fairs at the Lynchburg Petsmart, adoptions directly fromthe Campbell County AC Facility, and through transport of animals to other rescues and shelters. We also usefoster caregivers for intermediate care of animals who are being treated for disease, or who have had surgery andare waiting for forever homes.*Limited space available. You need to be at least 16 years old to inquire.


BEFORD HUMANE SOCIETYSupervisor: Annette Miller (540-587-9477)The Bedford Humane Society (BHS) is a nonprofit, charitable organization comprised of volunteers. Weare dedicated to eliminating the overpopulation of cats and dogs in Bedford County througheducation, spay/neuter programs, and animal adoptions. WE ARE NOT the Bedford County or Bedford City AnimalShelter.GLEANING FOR THE WORLDSupervisor: Michael Justice (434-993-3600)Gleaning For the World (GFTW) is a <strong>Christian</strong> ministry which began in July 1998 to support and assist the missionorganizations around the world. Many of our missionaries cannot afford the medical supplies, medical equipment,food and clothing necessary to influence the people to receive the <strong>Christian</strong> message. It is our belief that themissionaries deserve the best supplies we have to help them in their ministry.SPECIAL OLYMPICS VIRGINIASupervisor: Matt Camire (582-4712)Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sportsfor children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physicalfitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with theirfamilies, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.Students who volunteer with Special Olympics Virginia will be given the opportunity to interact with athletes whohave intellectual disabilities. The volunteers will help to provide them with opportunities to participate inorganized athletic events and practices. Volunteers will also be given the chance to help plan and organize variousevents throughout the Lynchburg community.*Slows down during the summer months but very active during the school yearSALVATION ARMY - INNER CITYSupervisor: Wayne Wade (426-3388)The Salvation Army (TSA) offers several volunteer opportunities: the Soup Kitchen, Noah’s Ark Day Care, the YouthProgram, the Family Store, Learning Room, Property Maintenance, and the Red Kettles. In the Soup Kitchen, TSAserves breakfast and dinner 365 days a year. Volunteers are needed to set up, prepare, serve, clean up andminister to the guests. Noah’s Ark Day Care provides low cost daycare to low income families. Volunteers areneeded to assist in the classrooms, interact with the children and help with after-school activities. The YouthProgram is open every day from 4 until 6 p.m. The Youth Program provides a meal, help with homework and a safeplace for inner city youth to come after school. Volunteers are needed to help with homework, play games andinteract with the youth. The Family Store is a resale store that is open M-F from 9-5. Volunteers are needed to helpprocess, sort and price donations. The Family Store ministers to clients of TSA as well as to the general public. TheLearning Room is in need of tutors for young children. Contact Kirby Crews at (E-mail) if interested in thisopportunity. Red Kettle volunteers are needed to ring the bell at area red kettles between mid November andChristmas Eve. All funds raised from the red kettles go to help families in need in Central Virginia.


THE OAKS OF LYNCHBURGSupervisor: Mary Daily (846-6611)The Oaks of Lynchburg is an assisted care home for senior adults. Our residents need assistance, but not the skilledcare of a nursing home. We offer many activities and need volunteers to help assist us in the implementing ofthese events.THE LYNCHBURG SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMITTEESupervisor: Kenny Rowlette (582-2087)This service opportunity will allow those who are interested in Civil War events, sites, and activities to help servethe community.YMCA - JAMERSONSupervisor - Jamerson YMCA: Corey Jeffcoat (582-1900 ext 224)For 152 years, the YMCA of Central Virginia has actively involved people of all ages in programs that put <strong>Christian</strong>principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
