Jon Kadela had just returned home after meeting some friends. Around 1:30am he
heard the first page for Finnegans, but began his response at the second page for
shots fired. Kadela arrived at PVAC, one ambulance had already left, 7603 had a
full crew with Kelly Wind in charge. Greg Wind arrived in the fly car 7606 and told
Kadela to return to the scene with him. They arrived and parked alongside CVS. I
young man was screaming “they shot my boy” and one or two friends were trying to
calm him down. The scene didn’t look safe, so Kadela stayed in 7606. Greg drove
them around the back of the shopping center to the other parking lot. It was
determined that another ambulance was needed. Greg and Jon Kadela went back
and got 7602. They returned to the scene and were directed by a Greenburgh PD
paramedic to aid a male with a gunshot wound to the left upper arm. Kadela felt that
law enforcement had provided a safe corridor into the scene. Kadela saw three or
more major pockets of volatile or raised vocal activity throughout the area with
college age people trying to calm them down. They found their patient in the rear
driver’s side of a police car near the Altima, the wound had already been bandaged.
The EMT in charge was Krista Wind. Nick D’Addesio and Kadela retrieved the
equipment requested by Krista Wind. The patient identified himself as either
Brendan or Brandon. The patient was clean cut, calm and well-spoken. The
dressing on his arm had some dried blood and did not show any signs of active
bleeding. They lowered him to the ground using a standing takedown taking all
spinal precautions. The patient was calm and answered all questions concisely.
During the treatment, a fight broke out in the parking lot near the Shoprite side of the
parking lot and several officers ran to secure that situation. He saw that police had
secured a wide perimeter from the four corners area as well as Garrigan Ave and
the light north of the Town Center. Kadela sat in the front seat of the ambulance
which transported the patient to WMC. At WMC they brought the patient into trauma
2. He saw trauma 1 had doctors and nurses , but not much activity and the patient
appeared deceased. Kadela heard no other conversations, collected their gear, and
returned to service heading back to their hq. As they neared the Thornwood
Storage, they were called by radio to return to the scene. They were met by
