Detective Greenberg at Hawthorne Cedar Knolls, 226 Linda Ave, Hawthorne, NY,<br />

interviewing Pleasantville Ambulance Captain Gail Wind, one of the first EMS<br />

workers on scene.<br />

Gail Wind submitted a pre-typed statement giving her account of the events. Also<br />

see additional handwritten statement.<br />

Wind stated she and her husband, Greg (statement already taken), were the first<br />

EMS to arrive in their PVAC Fly-Car 7606 she said within minutes of the call as he<br />

lives about one mile away. Wind described the scene as “chaotic” and “riot-like”.<br />

7606 was parked inside the north entrance near PO Hess. Gail went to Hess, while<br />

Greg went over to a black male Gail saw about 10-15’ away near the Nissan Altima.<br />

She saw blood on the male’s face and he was not moving. Greg determined there<br />

was no carotid pulse. Gail told Greg to go back and get another ambulance. A<br />

blonde woman in a white dress came over, took a sweater or cloth and gave it to PO<br />

Hess for support, then she went over to the male on the ground. Gail saw here<br />

doing CPR with another person. A short time later 37-medic-1 arrived. <strong>The</strong> medic,<br />

Beth Sanger, came to Gail and saw that PO Hess appeared stable and went over<br />

and begin treating the male on the ground. Ambulance 7601 arrived and Gail<br />

directed them to Paramedic Sanger. A few minutes later, the patient in cardiac<br />

arrest was wheeled over to ambulance 7601 and transported off the scene. As 7601<br />

left, ambulance 7603 arrived. PO Hess was moved onto the stretcher and<br />

transported. Gail stated there was no conversation about what happened, and he<br />

was transported. Ambulance 7602 arrived and the crew was directed by police to a<br />

male with an arm wound. <strong>The</strong> Greenburgh Paramedic assisted and the male was<br />

transported off the scene. Gail remained outside the inner perimeter for a while until<br />

she was told of another police officer injured. She noted that PO Gilmartin had also<br />
