Building on Family Days success

As a part of our local communities,
Bell Aliant continues to
lend its support to a number of
organizations across our region.
We are pleased to extend our support
to DND PSP for the 4th year in
a row.
Bell Aliant is pleased to come
back this year as a platinum level
sponsor of Family Days, held earlier
this year on June 5 and 6. The
2009 Family Days event was a
huge success and attended by
roughly 28,000 military and civilian
DND personnel and their families.
Bell Aliant employees were on
site to help answer questions about
Bell Aliant services, showcase new
products and raise awareness of the
DND exclusive deal.
Through the Halifax Personnel
Support Program, Bell Aliant is
once again able to offer MAR-
LANT personnel discounts on services.

the Canadian Forces Reserves program,
and recognizes the role our
employees represent in Canada’s
defense programs. As such, the
organization offers a Reserves
Leave for our employees, both for
purposes of training and active duty.

participation in the Navy’s Community
Leadership Advisory Committee.

Chuck Hartlen, is a member of this
committee, established to advise,
assist and provide recommendations
to the Admiral on matters
relating to strengthening the Navy’s
community profile focusing on
the critical role the Navy plays in
our community.
Bell Aliant recognizes the strong
role that the MFRC plays in supporting
military families and the community.
As such, Bell Aliant has
worked with the MFRC to assist in
providing subsidized telecom services
for some of the MFRC’s housing.

How big is your carbon footprint
Whether we drive to work, wash
and dry our clothes at home or are too
busy at work to turn off our computers,
we add to global greenhouse gas
emissions. Due to our lifestyles, the
climate and our dependence on vehicles,
the average Canadian’s carbon
footprint weighs 9.1 tonnes per year.
Climate change has become a
pressing issue in which every individual
contributes and is directly
affected. Greenhouse gases are the
#1 contributing factor to global
warming. Unless we take measures
to reduce our carbon footprints, the
global temperature could rise by six
degrees centigrade by 2100 and
result in an increase of 8 metres in the
world’s sea level. We must adopt
energy reducing habits to reduce our
carbon footprint.

(FSE) is raising Energy Awareness
during the third week of
TRIDENT, NOVEMBER 16, 2009
Energy Awareness
Week 2009
November. The aim of Energy
Awareness Week 2009 is to promote
and educate MARLANT personnel on
efficient energy reduction practices.
This year’s theme focuses on reducing
our carbon footprint and incorporating
energy reducing habits into our
lives. From November 16 to 20, we
encourage all personnel to take part
in FSE’s activities and to make an
effort to reduce CO2 emissions. From
November 16 to November 20, enter
to win an energy efficient microwave
donated by CANEX. Ballot boxes
will be at the Windsor Park, Shearwater
and Stadacona. CANEX locations.
Participate in Lunch and Learn
sessions on energy reduction. The
first session takes place November
17 at Stadacona in room 317 of S90
from 12 to 1 p.m. The second session
is November 19 from 12 to 1 p.m. in
room 318 of D247. Experts will provide
advice on ways to achieve energy
efficiency on the road.
