Video Messages Event<br />

Families and friends <strong>ca</strong>n record a<br />

personal Christmas message to<br />

their loved one who is deployed on<br />

HMCS Fredericton. Your loved one<br />

will receive his/her own personal<br />

DVD for viewing pleasure. All messages<br />

will be recorded in a private<br />

room, so sing a song, bring your<br />

pet, perform a skit, etc. Be creative<br />

in delivering your message. Messages<br />

will be recorded on a first<br />

come, first served basis.<br />

We will also be having a hot dog<br />

and hamburger BBQ during this<br />

time. All food will be provided by<br />

Deployment Services.<br />

Family Briefing & Pot Luck Event<br />

Please join us for the monthly<br />

CO’s Family Briefing. The CO will<br />

<strong>ca</strong>ll at 3 p.m. and provide us with a<br />

powerpoint and video presentation<br />

of the ship’s happenings since it<br />

departed Halifax. Following the<br />

presentations, we will chow down<br />

on all the great food you brought.<br />

When registering, please indi<strong>ca</strong>te<br />

what type of food you will be bringing<br />

in—salad, dessert or main dish.<br />

Deployment Family Networks<br />

Family networks are a wonderful<br />

and affordable means for military<br />

families with common concerns<br />

and interests to join in on a variety<br />

of fun social events every month for<br />

the duration of the deployment.<br />

Consisting of family members and<br />

friends of deployed CF members,<br />

networks are set up at the beginning<br />

of a deployment for families to<br />

share information, make new supportive<br />

friends and organize all<br />

kinds of special outings and events.<br />

des FC déployés, les réseaux<br />

sont mis en place au début du<br />

déploiement pour permettre aux<br />

familles de partager des informations,<br />

rencontrer de nouveaux amis<br />

et organiser toutes sortes de sorties<br />

et d’évènements pour toute la durée<br />

A Pre-Deployment Family<br />

Readiness Information Briefing<br />

will be held at the Piers Military<br />

Community Centre on Tuesday,<br />

December 1, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.<br />

for all members and their families<br />

who are preparing to deploy to a CF<br />

operation, such as Afghanistan,<br />

Sierra Leone, Sudan etc. The purpose<br />

of this briefing is to provide<br />

families with information to assist<br />

them in preparing for deployment,<br />

some of the various support organizations<br />

available to them and the<br />

services they provide. Informative<br />

presentations include CF resources<br />

available to support families which<br />

includes benefits and allowances,<br />

legal (AJAG) and Halifax & Region<br />

MFRC and the programs and<br />

resources provided which includes<br />

Family Networks and events, Casual<br />

& Emergency Child<strong>ca</strong>re, and<br />

Morale Mail to name a few. While<br />

there will be focus on those deploying<br />

to Afghanistan, this briefing<br />

will be beneficial for any member<br />

or family who may be deployed in<br />

future operations.<br />

Even if your loved one has<br />

already on their deployment, you<br />

are more than welcome to attend.<br />

Casual <strong>ca</strong>re will be available<br />

from 6:15 to 8:45 p.m. Registration<br />

deadline for attendance and <strong>ca</strong>sual<br />

<strong>ca</strong>re is noon on Friday, <strong>Nov</strong>ember<br />

Op We Care: Christmas<br />

Package Assembly Event<br />

Volunteers and deployed family<br />

members gather to assemble Christmas<br />

Morale packages that will be<br />

sent to CF members who are independently<br />

deployed throughout the<br />

world. These particular CF members,<br />

who receive the morale packages<br />

are not only separated from<br />

their families but also from their<br />

regular military units in the Maritimes.<br />

Through the periodic mailing<br />

of <strong>ca</strong>re packages we hope to<br />

remind our military members that<br />

they are thought of and appreciated.<br />

Op We Care aims to boost the<br />

morale of the CF members. After<br />

we assemble and decorate the<br />

parcels, we’ll end the afternoon<br />

with some festive treats.<br />

Homefront Connections<br />

Children’s Christmas Party<br />

Christmas party for families of<br />

HMCS Fredericton and other<br />

deployed families. Ho! ho! ho! This<br />

party will include the favourites:<br />

face painting, craft making, Santa<br />

and Mrs. Claus, and more.<br />

We will end the afternoon with a<br />

potluck supper. Participants are<br />

asked to bring a Christmas dish/<br />

dessert and the recipe to share with<br />

other families. During the afternoon<br />

a copy of all recipes will be<br />

assembled for families to take<br />

home. Also, we will be taking pictures<br />

of each child with Santa and<br />

will have a printed copy for participants<br />

before they leave.<br />

Gift from Santa: Participants will<br />

be reimbursed half the cost of each<br />

gift, not to exceed $10 per gift. Parents<br />

are to purchase their own<br />

child’s/children’s gifts (max $20<br />

per gift) and bring them into the<br />

H&R MFRC Halifax Site no later<br />

than Friday December 11, Sunday,<br />

December 13, 2 to 7 p.m.<br />

The H&R MFRC has a video teleconferencing<br />

system at our Halifax<br />

site for families of members<br />

deployed to Kandahar. Contact the<br />
