Museum of the Atlantic
On Tuesday, November 20 at 7:30
p.m., join marine geologist Dr. Gordon
Fader for a public talk titled Mapping
Halifax Harbour: What Have We
learned It is now almost 20 years since
Halifax Harbour was studied with new
seabed mapping technology that provided
an unprecedented portrayal of
materials and processes. The presentation
will highlight some attributes of
Halifax Harbour including 45 shipwrecks
within and as many as 52 at the
mouth; gas-escape craters termed pockmarks;
former lake shorelines and
islands of Bedford Basin and the discovery
of the original bridges that
crossed The Narrows. This information
will be assessed as to how it has been
used for management of the Harbour
with a view to the future development
potential. Dr. Fader has been involved
in geoscience and environmental aspects
of offshore projects off eastern Canada,
including Hibernia Oil Development,
Scotian Shelf Gas Development, Confederation
Bridge construction, the
