The Shearwater Military Family
Resource Centre Extravaganza
The SMFRC Extravaganza is back—
and it’s bigger and better than ever.
Featuring 12 great vacations valued at
approximately $5000 each, it’s your best
chance to escape to a tropical paradise
this winter.
Tickets go on sale February 8. Each
ticket enters you in a year’s worth of
monthly draws for a trip, $1000 and
$500. Each day during the ticket sale period
(February 8 to 17) we’ll be giving
away early bird prizes ranging from
iPods to big screen TVs.
There are 54 of these prizes in all, and
the sooner you buy a ticket, the more
chances you have to win.
All proceeds are used to fund the programs
and services of the SMFRC.
Tickets are on sale at the SMFRC, PSP
Info Kiosk (Stadacona A-Block) or by
calling 720-1885.
Regular Force military members can
buy tickets through payroll allotment at a
cost of only $5 a pay over the course of a
year.
Reservists, civilian DND employees,
and anyone else who wishes to purchase
a ticket can do so, but must pay the total
cost of $120 in advance. Visa and MasterCard
are accepted.

Alpha for the Military
Military members and DND employees
are welcome to attend a noon-hour course
entitled Alpha for the Military, a search
for answers about life, reality, and the
Christian faith.
An information session will be held on
Wednesday, February 15, from noon until
1 p.m. at the Dockyard Gym, first floor
conference room.
A video entitled Christianity: Boring,
Untrue and Irrelevant will be shown
and pizza will be provided. Discussion
sessions will continue every subsequent
Wednesday at noon until the end
of April.
Registration is free and attendance at
all sessions is not mandatory. For more

Prayer Breakfast
The annual MARLANT Prayer Breakfast
will be held Thursday, February 23
at 8 a.m. at the galley in A Block at
Stadacona. Appropriate wear is Dress of
the Day and the cost is pay as you go,
maximum $7. Padre Lt(N) Anderson is
the guest speaker. For more information,

Coffee House
First Presbyterian Church Sackville
at 60 Beaverbank Road in Lower
Sackville will be holding its monthly
coffee house on Saturday February 11
from 7:30pm - 9:30pm.
The featured performer is Clary Croft,
a well known musician in the folksinging
community of Nova Scotia. He is a seasoned
TV and radio performer and music
historian and participates in many folk
festivals. During the evening, coffee,tea,
soft drinks, and snacks are available in a
relaxed atmosphere.
In the open mic session, performers are
encouraged.This is a Harbour Folk Society
Venue.
Shearwater MFRC
Youth Ball Hockey League
We play on Wednesday nights. There
are eight teams in our league. Games are
3 on 3 plus a goalie. We play two 15
minute running time periods and we have
15 minutes of skill instruction and warm
up prior to the game—for a total of 45
minutes per week. There is no cost to play
in the league.
The Shearwater Military Family
Resource Center’s Henderson Sweetman
Youth Centre runs the league. Adults and
youth coach teams.
No equipment is required—we provide
sticks and goalie gear. (Goggles are
mandatory and we ask children to provide
their own, or they can rent them for
50 cents a night) All skill levels welcome.
The league is co-ed and this is a
great way to stay fit, have fun and meet
other children. The league is open to military
and civilians.
We currently have 60 children in the
league but still need more. The league
goes until the end of May, and we finish
off the season with a daylong floor hockey
tournament. The children range in age
from 8 to 13 years.
All members of the league must have
a current Youth Center membership. This
is a $15/year fee and entitles all members
to attend the drop-ins at the Youth Center,
along with special events, activities
and programs.

Open House at 33
(Halifax) Service Battalion
The public is invited to attend an Open
House at 33 (Halifax) Service Battalion
on Saturday, March 11, 2006 from 10
a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Battalion is located at Canadian
Forces Base Willow Park on Windsor
Street north of the Bayers Road
intersection.
This will be an opportunity for the general
public to observe static and dynamic
displays, as well as obtain information
on recruitment.

Model Show at
Shearwater Aviation Museum
On Saturday March 18, the Shearwater
Aviation Museum (SAM) will host its
eighth annual model show. There will be
a showcase and trade fair on the lower
level of the museum, and the model contest
will be on the upper level.
Model categories include aircraft,
armour, automotive, sci-fi, figures, ships,
and dioramas. General admission fee is
$2, and children under 12 are admitted
free when accompanied by an adult.
