COPE for Male Circumcision Services<br />
6. Does your facility or other service setting plan and conduct sensitization training to<br />
facilitate positive attitudes among staff and to discourage stigma and discrimination<br />
against people living with HIV and other vulnerable groups, such as sex workers, men<br />
who have sex with men, and injecting drug users<br />
7. Is a training system in place to regularly update staff on the following<br />
■ Knowledge of issues related to job duties<br />
■ Technical skills related to job duties<br />
■ Ability to perform job duties<br />
8. Are periodic orientations, updates, and MC skills training sessions provided to keep staff<br />
skilled in and well informed about changing approaches and technologies in MC<br />
procedure<br />
9. Does this training system include tools that measure how effective the training sessions<br />
are in improving the knowledge, technical skills, and/or attitudes of the training<br />
participants<br />
10. If any of your site’s staff members attend an off-site training session or conference, do<br />
they share information with their colleagues about what they learned at the training<br />
11. Do staff know about and have ready access to current service delivery guidelines (in the<br />
form of reference books, guidelines, charts, posters, and other materials) for each type of<br />
service provided in your health care setting<br />
12. Do staff follow the national guidelines and protocols when providing MC services<br />
13. Do staff have access to resources for continuing education to better meet their clients’<br />
information needs<br />
14. Where turnover is high or where demand for services is increasing rapidly, does your<br />
health care setting have a strategic plan for expanding the pool of MC providers,<br />
counselors, laboratory technicians, and supervisors to support MC services<br />
15. To expand services and continue to develop staff skills, have other staff members besides<br />
doctors (such as nurses and clinical officers) been trained as MC providers<br />
16. Have all staff received training on the following<br />
■ The use of quality improvement tools and approaches<br />
■ Health services provided in your service setting<br />
■ Infection prevention (universal precautions)<br />
17. Have appropriate staff received training on all required MC standards, according to<br />
national or World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines/standards, and on procedures<br />
for HIV counseling and testing services These might include the following:<br />
■ Overview of MC and HIV infection<br />
■ Informed consent<br />
■ Pretest counseling<br />
