23. Do providers have job aids for counseling clients on MC, prevention of the transmission of<br />

HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and on correct use of condoms<br />

24. Does your MC service setting have a television and a videocassette or DVD player and<br />

relevant videos or DVDs for client education, including materials about HIV/STI risk<br />

reduction, correct and consistent condom use, HIV counseling and testing, and sexual and<br />

reproductive health, including family planning<br />

25. Are postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) kits readily available for accidents related to<br />

occupational exposure, in accordance with national and World Health Organization<br />

guidelines<br />

26. Does your MC service setting have an overall strategic plan that includes commodity<br />

procurement (e.g., MC supplies, rapid test kits, infection prevention supplies)<br />

27. Does your MC service setting have a system to ensure emergency preparedness by<br />

routinely doing the following<br />

■ Displaying emergency protocols on wall charts<br />

■ Preparing a portable emergency tray or trolley with equipment, drugs, and supplies and<br />

making it available in client-care areas<br />

■ Checking emergency drugs for availability and expiration dates<br />

■ Ensuring that emergency equipment is working<br />

■ Reviewing emergency guidelines and protocols with staff through discussion and<br />

periodic rehearsals<br />

28. Are the following conditions and supplies in place in areas where health talks occur<br />

■ Adequate space within or adjacent to the client waiting<br />

■ Benches/chairs<br />

■ If available, portable partitions to provide more privacy<br />

■ Where electricity is available and reliable, a television, a videocassette or DVD player,<br />

and relevant videos or DVDs, including those on MC, HIV prevention, HIV counseling<br />

and testing, and other HIV-related topics<br />

■ Information, education, and communication (IEC) materials, including posters and<br />

pamphlets, about HIV and AIDS; HIV prevention; MC; HIV counseling and testing;<br />

prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV; treatment, care, and support<br />

services; and family planning<br />

■ Condoms (male and female)<br />

■ Penis and vagina models<br />

29. Are the following conditions and supplies available where one-on-one or couples<br />

counseling takes place<br />

■ Auditory privacy<br />

■ Visual privacy<br />
