VISION<br />

The Consortium was established in 1990 with the<br />

goal <strong>of</strong> strengthening the HIV/AIDS prevention<br />

and care initiatives <strong>of</strong> its members. Consortium<br />

members meet regularly to exchange information<br />

on activities, share resources and materials,<br />

encourage good working relationships with<br />

government bodies and promote activities at a<br />

village level. Members are supported by a<br />

resource centre whose aim is to collect and<br />

disseminate practical, locally relevant<br />

information on HIV and AIDS.<br />

information exchange, networking, resource<br />

Users <strong>of</strong> the Centre’s information: government<br />

personnel, NGOs, people living with HIV, sex<br />

workers. We write, draw or produce our own<br />

information - newsletters, resource lists,<br />

VISION<br />

KAS is a self-help organisation for people living with<br />

AIDS. Activities include education training and<br />

outreach run by people living with AIDS, especially<br />

training in slum areas <strong>of</strong> Nairobi and schools,<br />

counselling and support run by people living with<br />

AIDS, and home based care run by sex workers,<br />

income generation (including payment as educators),<br />

advocacy and networking. They run a telephone<br />

hotline and have established a legal network (Kenya<br />

Ethical and Legal Issues Network - KELIN) dealing<br />

with legal issues. They produce a bi-monthly<br />

newsletter KAS News and their resource centre is<br />
