This essay is to be handwritten on lined notebook paper.<br />

Below is the heading to be used for your writing sample. It should be against the left margin of your notebook paper.<br />

The writing sample should be no longer than two pages. The writing sample will be scored 1-5, with 5 being the highest.<br />

The readers will be looking for:<br />

• well-organized thoughts<br />

• logical, concise reasoning<br />

• correct punctuation<br />

• proper capitalization<br />

• correct grammar usage<br />

Students in an English class debated whether composition skills were important in all occupations and careers. Some students<br />

believed that every kind of work required writing skills, but many students disagreed. What is your opinion on this issue<br />

Most colleges consider many factors when admitting students: high school grades, test scores, extra-curricular activities, leadership<br />

positions, athletic achievements, work history, etc. Some of your friends believe that grades are the only things that colleges<br />

should consider when admitting students. What is your position on this issue<br />

What work of art, music, science, mathematics, or literature has surprised, unsettled, or challenged you, and in what way<br />

Prompt #4<br />

Tell us something about yourself that reveals who you really are through the books you read, the activities in which you are involved,<br />

the trips you take, or the films you watch. (Write about only one of these activities that defines you.).<br />
