The Northern Territory does not have a Public Advocate
but it does have an Office of the Public Guardian.
The Office of the Public Guardian can apply for
guardianship orders, provide reports to the court, make
representations to the court, act as guardian and other
functions conferred to it by law. Guardianship Panels
are appointed by the Minister to provide advice and
make recommendations to the Court in relation to the
issue of guardianship orders. Although the Office of the
Public Guardian and the Guardianship Panel both have
investigative powers for the purpose of reporting to
the court, they only have that power if so ordered
by the court.
