S E S S I O N S Know What to Do if You Find an Unknown Object This is the most important information that you will teach the participants. What do I do if I find an unknown object DO’S STOP moving. It could be a mine or a bomb! Do not forget that there could be others hidden nearby STAY CALM CHECK you position for signs of other mines/UXO WARN others around about the potential danger and don’t allow anyone to approach MARK the area with a visible, recognizable and agreedupon sign to keep others away from danger MOVE BACK along the same path you just walked, retracing your footsteps REPORT to a local authority (LC, religious or social leader, etc) FOLLOW UP to make sure the object has been removed DON’TS Panic Touch or handle the mine in any way Throw anything at the mine Attempt to burn the mine or throw it in the water Disturb the area around the mine in any way - there may be others hidden Move any closer to or around the object - there may be tripwires hidden Use your phone within 100 meters of the object 17 STOP moving and STAY CALM. MARK the area and MOVE BACK. REPORT to a local authority. FOLLOW UP.
