<strong>2005</strong> <strong>UMKC</strong> Volleyball<br />

Chrissy Elder, Assistant Coach<br />

Chrissy Elder begins her first season as assistant coach under Steve Dallman, having joined the <strong>UMKC</strong><br />

staff on July 1, <strong>2005</strong>.<br />

Elder comes to <strong>UMKC</strong> after spending the previous year as a student assistant coach at Pittsburg State<br />

University in Pittsburg, Kan. Her duties included equipment supervision, practice and game day court<br />

management, video operations and study hall. Elder also served as head coach of Star Aquila, a club<br />

team in Pittsburg, for a year.<br />

Elder played intercollegiately at Missouri prior to transferring to Pittsburg State where she completed her<br />

eligibility. She was an AVCA All-South Central Region player in 2003, hitting .263 for the Gorillas as they<br />

reached the round of 16 in the NCAA Division II Tournament. As a setter, Elder was second in the Mid-<br />

America Intercollegiate <strong>Athletics</strong> Association in assists, averaging 12.59 per game. She was the only<br />

setter in the league to be ranked in the top 10 in blocks that season, averaging 1.02 blocks per contest.<br />

She was invited to the USA National Team tryouts in February, <strong>2005</strong>.<br />

She was an all-state player at Park Hill South High School in Kansas City, Mo., and was the Gatorade<br />

player-of-the-year for the state of Missouri her senior year. She was also a member of the Kansas City<br />

Star's all-Metro team that season.<br />

Elder has a bachelor's degree in recreation from Pittsburg State and is working toward a master's<br />

degree in liberal arts at <strong>UMKC</strong>. She resides in Parkville, Mo.<br />

Juliana Lemes, Assistant Coach<br />

Juliana Lemes enters her fifth season as an assistant coach with the <strong>UMKC</strong> volleyball team. She assists<br />

in scouting, recruiting and all daily operations of the program. In addition, she handles most of the team's<br />

administrative duties. Prior to becoming an assistant coach, she spent one season as a manager for the<br />

Kangaroos.<br />

Lemes brings extensive knowledge of the international game to <strong>UMKC</strong>. She played high school volleyball<br />

at E.E.P.S.G. Dr. Heitor Penteado in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She went on to represent Americana<br />

Volleyball for two seasons of city competition.<br />

Lemes, a native of Sao Paulo, is completing a degree in information technology at <strong>UMKC</strong>.<br />

Juliana and her husband, Junior, live in Parkville, Mo. They recently had their first child, Julia, in July.<br />
