Email <strong>and</strong> Office Productivity Technology<br />
• GroupWise is the f<strong>aculty</strong> <strong>and</strong> staff email system, <strong>of</strong>fering integrated email, calendar, <strong>and</strong> contact<br />
management capabilities. Alternative clients such as Micros<strong>of</strong>t Outlook can be used to access<br />
Groupwise information, but all <strong>of</strong>ficial email correspondence is conducted through Groupwise or<br />
GeorgiaView.<br />
• Micros<strong>of</strong>t Office 2007 is the university st<strong>and</strong>ard for word processing, spreadsheets, <strong>and</strong> other<br />
personal productivity tools.<br />
• Micros<strong>of</strong>t Sharepoint sites are available to f<strong>aculty</strong> for use in collaborating with others on research,<br />
scholarship, online discussions, <strong>and</strong> blogging.<br />
• Library Resources <strong>of</strong>fered through the Henderson Library allow public access to scholarly works,<br />
journals, <strong>and</strong> other online resources. Galileo, the state‐wide online library service, provides access to<br />

Instructional Technology<br />
• GeorgiaVIEW is the university online course delivery platform (WebCT Vista). It can be used for a<br />
variety <strong>of</strong> instructional needs from posting a syllabus to supplementing traditional classroom<br />
instruction to delivering an entire degree program fully online. To learn more, visit<br />

• Wimba classroom is fully integrated with GeorgiaVIEW <strong>and</strong> enables instructors to create an online<br />
classroom or meeting space with full audio/visual interactive features.<br />
• Podcasting <strong>and</strong> video streaming capabilities <strong>and</strong> services are available.<br />
• Google Applications are available to f<strong>aculty</strong>, staff, <strong>and</strong> students, including personal web pages, blogs,<br />
document collaboration, <strong>and</strong> many other tools in the Google suite. Google Apps are available through<br />
a single sign‐on at the http://my.georgiasouthern.edu web portal.<br />
Research Technology<br />
• High‐performance computing resources are available through a cooperative agreement with Georgia<br />
State University. Applications include Amber, Gaussian, Matlab, SAS, <strong>and</strong> the IBM Engineering <strong>and</strong><br />
Scientific Library.<br />
• Mathematical modeling tools such as Mathematica <strong>and</strong> Matlab provide computational <strong>and</strong><br />
visualization tools for developing <strong>and</strong> testing complex mathematics.<br />
• Virtual server <strong>and</strong> data storage eliminate concerns over loss <strong>of</strong> data <strong>and</strong> years <strong>of</strong> work because the<br />
server <strong>and</strong> disk drive crashed. ITS <strong>of</strong>fers solutions for virtual servers <strong>and</strong> secure data storage so f<strong>aculty</strong><br />
can focus on teaching <strong>and</strong> research.<br />
• EndNote provides online bibliographic database searching, organizes references, <strong>and</strong> creates<br />
bibliographies <strong>and</strong> lists.<br />
Classroom Technology<br />
• Smart classrooms are classrooms with integrated multimedia technology such as projectors,<br />
document cameras, <strong>and</strong> specialized audiovisual equipment. The University provides 24/7 smart<br />
classrooms <strong>and</strong> laboratories on campus.<br />
• Videoconferencing technologies ranging from large‐scale classroom to personal Internet‐based<br />
systems are available. Videoconferencing sessions can also be recorded <strong>and</strong> made available<br />
electronically at the instructor’s request.<br />
• Student response systems are available for real‐time student feedback <strong>and</strong> response during lectures.<br />
CPS clickers, the campus st<strong>and</strong>ard devices, allow instructors to conduct classroom polls <strong>and</strong> questions<br />
that can help ensure comprehension <strong>and</strong> maximize instructional time.<br />
• Computer labs <strong>and</strong> print stations that are open to all students are located across campus. Lab<br />
schedules vary from limited access to the library’s 24‐hour access.<br />

• Directory services are provided on the university website. The online directory provides the most<br />
current listing <strong>of</strong> f<strong>aculty</strong> <strong>and</strong> staff.<br />
• Telephones are provided to every f<strong>aculty</strong> member with each phone holding a unique 4‐digit extension.<br />
