Range <strong>of</strong> disciplinary sanctions<br />
Use <strong>of</strong> Georgia Southern computing resources in violation <strong>of</strong> the University's Computer Use Policy <strong>and</strong> the<br />
Security St<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>and</strong> Guidelines Policy may result in loss <strong>of</strong> computing privileges <strong>and</strong> other disciplinary<br />
action. Some violations may constitute criminal <strong>of</strong>fenses, as outlined in the Georgia Computer Systems Security<br />
Act, the Copyright Act, <strong>and</strong> other local, state, <strong>and</strong> federal laws; the University will carry out its responsibility to<br />
report such violations to the appropriate authorities. Nothing in this policy is intended to limit the authority <strong>of</strong><br />
supervisors to impose disciplinary sanctions on employees.<br />
IV. Responsible Office<br />
This Computer Use Policy shall be administered <strong>and</strong> enforced by the University’s Chief Information Officer<br />
or his or her duly authorized designee.<br />
V. Definitions<br />
Computing Resource Computing resources comprise all computers <strong>and</strong> electronic data storage, transmission,<br />
<strong>and</strong> manipulation devices owned <strong>and</strong>/or controlled by any part <strong>of</strong> Georgia Southern or connected to the<br />
University’s communication facilities, including departmental computers <strong>and</strong> the University’s computing<br />
network facilities accessed by anyone from anywhere.<br />
Authorized Use Authorized use <strong>of</strong> Georgia Southern computing resources is use <strong>of</strong> computer resources that is<br />
consistent with the education, research, <strong>and</strong> service mission <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>and</strong> consistent with this<br />
Computer Use Policy.<br />
Authorized User Authorized users are as follows:<br />
1. current f<strong>aculty</strong>, staff, <strong>and</strong> students <strong>of</strong> Georgia Southern;<br />
2. any person connecting to a public information service housed on a computing resource; <strong>and</strong><br />
3. others whose access furthers the mission <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>and</strong> whose usage does not interfere with<br />
other users' access to computing resources.<br />
Each user <strong>of</strong> a computing resource must be specifically authorized to use that particular computing<br />
resource by the university unit responsible for maintaining <strong>and</strong> operating the resource.<br />
110 F<strong>aculty</strong> Governance<br />
110.01 Shared Governance<br />
1. The f<strong>aculty</strong> <strong>and</strong> administration <strong>of</strong> Georgia Southern University affirm their belief in the process <strong>of</strong><br />
shared governance both as a principle <strong>and</strong> an animating spirit <strong>of</strong> our institution. Shared governance<br />
involves f<strong>aculty</strong> <strong>and</strong> administration participating mutually in the development <strong>of</strong> policies at the<br />
departmental, college, <strong>and</strong> university levels. F<strong>aculty</strong> therefore have a role in developing policies<br />
including, at the appropriate levels, strategic planning; academic <strong>and</strong> curricular policies; committee<br />
establishment <strong>and</strong> appointments; selection <strong>and</strong> retention <strong>of</strong> academic unit leaders; review <strong>and</strong><br />
revision <strong>of</strong> the shared governance process; <strong>and</strong> f<strong>aculty</strong> personnel actions, including hiring <strong>and</strong><br />
evaluation <strong>of</strong> f<strong>aculty</strong> (annual evaluation, pre‐tenure, tenure, post‐tenure review, <strong>and</strong> promotion). As<br />
used here, “policy” is understood to include guiding <strong>and</strong> governing principles <strong>and</strong> any applicable<br />
procedures, instructions, or forms developed along with the principles.<br />
2. In pursuit <strong>of</strong> clarity <strong>and</strong> to provide ready access for f<strong>aculty</strong> <strong>and</strong> administrators, these policies shall<br />
appear on the respective departmental, college, <strong>and</strong> university web sites <strong>and</strong> be available in print in<br />
the respective departmental, college, <strong>and</strong> university <strong>of</strong>fices. In consultation with the chair <strong>and</strong> fulltime<br />
f<strong>aculty</strong> in each department, each dean should verify the existence <strong>of</strong>, review, <strong>and</strong> when<br />
necessary, initiate revision <strong>of</strong> departmental policies to confirm their consistency with college <strong>and</strong><br />
university policies.<br />
3. In consultation with the dean <strong>of</strong> each college, the Provost should review <strong>and</strong>, when necessary, initiate<br />
revision <strong>of</strong> college policies to confirm their consistency with university policies.<br />
4. All f<strong>aculty</strong> <strong>and</strong> administrators have the responsibility to be aware <strong>of</strong> the written policies <strong>of</strong> their<br />
respective departments <strong>and</strong> colleges, <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> the University, as well as those <strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents.<br />
110.02 F<strong>aculty</strong> Senate<br />
The F<strong>aculty</strong> Senate is established by the Statutes <strong>of</strong> the institution <strong>and</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents <strong>and</strong> is the<br />
elected legislative agency <strong>of</strong> the f<strong>aculty</strong>. As such, it is the <strong>of</strong>ficial f<strong>aculty</strong> advisory body to the President. Subject
