Use of public resources
The Financial Management Act 2006 places a responsibility on board members. They need to ensure
efficient and effective operations, avoid extravagant and wasteful use of resources, and record
processes carried out when purchasing goods and services.

Board members will analyse financial statements and management reports with
due care, and ensure they are properly informed.
Remuneration or sitting fees
Some boards pay an annual salary, daily or half daily sitting fee to members and some do not.
Boards and committees should refer to the Commissioner’s Circular 2009/31 Eligibility of
Government Officers for payment of fees for Government Boards or Committees. This may need
to be modified to reflect the particular circumstances of your board.
