<strong>MASONRY</strong> <strong>CLEANING</strong><br />

<strong>PART</strong> 1 - <strong>GENERAL</strong><br />

1:<strong>01</strong> SUBMITTALS<br />

Provide, prior to the start of work, two copies of manufacturer's specifications for<br />

cleaning compounds proposed for use plus description of cleaning process to be used.<br />

1:02 TESTING<br />

Test clean a 20-square-foot section of wall for inspection by Engineer using selected<br />

method and materials. Notify Engineer prior to conducting test. Coordinate area selected<br />

for test with Engineer.<br />

<strong>PART</strong>2-PRODUCTS<br />

2:<strong>01</strong> <strong>CLEANING</strong> MATERIALS<br />

A. Cleaning materials shall be as or equal to "Sure Klean" Restoration Cleaner as<br />

manufactured by The Process Solvent Company, Kansas, for existing brick.<br />

B. For cast stone items, clean with "Sure Klean". Limestone Restorer as<br />

manufactured by the Process Solvent Company.<br />

<strong>PART</strong> $ - EXECUTION<br />

3:<strong>01</strong> PREPARATION<br />

A. Give minimum 48 hours' notice to Engineer before starting cleaning operations.<br />

Clean test section as required above.<br />

B. Do not begin cleaning operations until sufficient demolition has been completed<br />

to expose all areas of wall to be cleaned.<br />

3:02 PROTECTION<br />

A. Brick cleaning material is acidic and will etch glass. Mask and protect all glass<br />

and other non-masonry surfaces from direct contact with cleaning solutions.<br />

B. Protect adjacent areas from damage by cleaning process. Prevent penetration of<br />

cleaning compounds or liquids into existing finished areas behind and adjacent to<br />

walls being cleaned.<br />

C. Promptly repair any damage caused to adjacent facilities by cleaning operations,<br />

as directed by Engineer and at no cost to Owner.<br />

3:03 APPLICATION<br />

A. Clean existing areas of brick masonry and cast stone ornament arid trim where<br />

shown on drawings.<br />

B. Apply cleaner in accord with manufacturer's recommendations and instructions.<br />

Rinse walls with high pressure water in accord with manufacturer's<br />

recom mendations.<br />

3:04 <strong>CLEANING</strong><br />

A. At conclusion of cleaning operations, remove and dispose of necessary masking<br />

materials, remove cleaning compounds and equipment from site and leave area of<br />

operations in clean and dry conditions.<br />

B. All residue washed from building surface shall be "swept or flushed from<br />

surrounding sidewalks, paved areas and landscaping, leaving premises clean and<br />

neat.<br />
