ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE<br />
Free academic assistance is available for <strong>Northwestern</strong> students in the core academic areas.<br />
Students may be referred for assistance through a teacher, counselor, coach, parent. A certified teacher<br />
or Winthrop tutor will be assigned to the student for scheduled assistance throughout scheduled times<br />
during the week.<br />
Academic assistance opportunities include but not limited to:<br />
• Before school at 7:30 to 8:20 a.m. on Monday through Friday<br />
• During the school day per the teacher’s discretion<br />
• During all three lunches<br />
• Mornings of Delayed Start - Staff Development Days from 8:10 to 10:10 a.m.<br />

HOMEBOUND INSTRUCTION<br />
Students who are unable to attend school for an extended period of time due to illness may qualify<br />
for homebound instruction. Approval is granted through school district personnel at the <strong>District</strong> Office.<br />
Parents/Guardians who wish such services for a student should call 981-1000 for further information.<br />
COURSE SELECTION<br />
Questions about schedule changes, course selections and the scheduling process should be directed<br />
to the counseling department. Students must adhere to published scheduling guidelines. Schedules are<br />
distributed to students at the beginning of each semester. Additional schedules are available for a fee of<br />
$1.00.<br />
JOB SHADOWING/INTERNSHIP<br />
In order to job shadow, the student must submit the Job Shadowing Permission Form to the Career<br />
Counselor one week (seven days) prior to job shadowing. The student must submit the Job Shadowing<br />
Worksheet and Thank You Note the day after the shadowing experience in order for the day to be<br />
excused.<br />
WITHDRAWAL/TRANSFER<br />
Any student who leaves school during the session should, on the last day (s)he attends, report to<br />
his/her counselor and return all school property.<br />
A parent or guardian must complete the withdrawal/transfer form. Unless this is completed, the<br />
school is under no obligation to give out information to prospective employers, armed services, or<br />
other schools. No transcripts or references will be furnished schools. No transcripts or references will<br />
be furnished. Students who drop out and re-enroll must have a parental conference with the principal<br />
prior to re-enrolling.<br />
RETAKING A COURSE<br />
Students may repeat a course if they scored in the 76 or below the percentile range. Both grades<br />
will remain on the transcript and both will be figured into the GPR. Refer to statement #6 of the<br />
Uniform Grading Policy.<br />
