Flexibility & Progression: Modules can be taken as<br />
stand alone (10 ECTS) and at your own pace. You can<br />
progress onto certificate, diploma or MSc within two-five<br />
years <strong>of</strong> registration.<br />

Fees: The cost <strong>of</strong> MSc programme per year is<br />

The Programme<br />
Given the challenges confronting modern organisations,<br />
leadership is emerging as the single most important element<br />
in determining which will succeed and which will fail. The<br />
leadership qualities you display will determine not only the<br />
success <strong>of</strong> your organisation but also the nature <strong>of</strong> your career<br />
trajectory. This programme is designed to significantly<br />
increase your leadership capability so that you can function<br />
with increased confidence and maximise your impact and<br />
influence.<br />

This programme is designed for pr<strong>of</strong>essionals seeking to<br />
significantly develop their leadership capability, increase their<br />
self-insight and maximise their impact on others and on their<br />
organisations.<br />
Year 1<br />
Semester 1 (September – December)<br />
Module 1: Understanding & Managing Yourself (10 ECTS)<br />
Self-insight is the key to effective leadership. In this module,<br />
you will be introduced to the psychology <strong>of</strong> leadership and<br />
leadership development. You will explore a range <strong>of</strong> leadership<br />
paradigms and learn to understand the central role <strong>of</strong> self<br />
development. You will undertake a number <strong>of</strong> psychometric<br />
assessments to assist you start your personal exploration <strong>of</strong><br />
leadership practice.<br />
Module 2: Leading & Managing Others (10 ECTS)<br />
Leading, influencing and managing individuals and teams is a<br />
key capability required <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. Here you will explore<br />
the psychology <strong>of</strong> one-to-one and team leadership and learn<br />
to understand the complex communication skills involved. You<br />
will also look at how to manage dysfunctional teams, how to<br />
handle conflict and how to maximise motivation. You will<br />
undertake a number <strong>of</strong> psychometric assessments to assist<br />
your understanding <strong>of</strong> your approach to teamwork, motivation,<br />
communication and conflict.<br />
Module 3: Leading Change (10 ECTS)<br />
This module introduces the major models <strong>of</strong> change<br />
management and explores their application in practice. You<br />
will learn to lead change using a variety <strong>of</strong> change<br />
management tools, understand the impact <strong>of</strong> culture on<br />
change, develop your negotiation skills and determine the<br />
factors that are most important in sustaining change and<br />
developing learning organisations.<br />
Semester 2 (January – April/May)<br />
Module 4: Leading Quality Improvement (10 ECTS)<br />
This module focuses on leadership in the context <strong>of</strong><br />
maximising quality and safety and minimising risk in<br />
organisations. You will explore the concepts <strong>of</strong> governance,<br />
quality, standards, safety & risk and examine current best<br />
practice in a variety <strong>of</strong> contexts. You will learn about tools such<br />
as the Productive Series, Six Sigma Process, Lean Process<br />
Improvement, Process Mapping and Prince2 Project<br />
Management.<br />
Module 5: Leading Your Service (10ECTS)<br />
Successful organisations have a clear vision and mission, know<br />
their core values and have a strategic plan that informs the<br />
allocation <strong>of</strong> resources and the articulation and measurement<br />
<strong>of</strong> outcomes. This module focuses on the broader systems <strong>of</strong><br />
the organisation and explores the models and tools essential<br />
for strategic planning and implementation. The relationships<br />
between leadership and strategic planning are explored and<br />
particular emphasis is placed on the role <strong>of</strong> financial factors<br />
and accounting methods in leading an organisation and<br />
providing a service.<br />
Module 6: <strong>Leadership</strong> and Management Skills for Future<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals (10 ECTS)<br />
This module will further develop your capacity to plan your own<br />
and your Unit’s development in an organised manner using a<br />
variety <strong>of</strong> frameworks. You will learn about workforce planning<br />
and staff engagement and how to optimise organisational<br />
capital. The module will also consider the major emerging<br />
trends in society that will influence the nature <strong>of</strong> leadership<br />
over the coming decades and help you elaborate your<br />
response in order to maximise your leadership effectiveness<br />
into the future.<br />
Year 2<br />
Semester 3 & 4 (September – May)<br />

& Change Management Project.<br />
Assessment<br />
Case studies, individual and group assignments, presentations,<br />
reports, posters, reflections and change management project.<br />
The assessments have a targeted application to participants<br />
existing working environments.<br />
