3. The decision on how best to address the over-enrollment <strong>of</strong> an elementary <strong>school</strong><br />

classroom will be based on the particular situation and the building circumstances<br />

involved. The decision will be made by the administration after discussion with<br />

the classroom teacher, central <strong>of</strong>fice personnel, and building principal.<br />

Secondary<br />

The following class size ceilings/maximums and student load maximums are exclusive <strong>of</strong><br />

choir, band, and study hall.<br />

The maximum student load for grades 6-12 is one hundred sixty-five (165) students per<br />

teacher. The teacher shall be paid fifty dollars ($50) per student over the maximum each<br />

semester. Student load for this purpose will be determined following the class withdrawal<br />

deadline for students. Payment will be made on the first pay date after the end <strong>of</strong> the<br />

· semester.<br />

General Guidelines<br />

I. Mainstrearned special education students will be counted only when the time in<br />

the classroom exceeds one-half (1/2) <strong>of</strong> the instructional day. In the event that<br />

more than one (I) special education student is being mainstrearned in a given<br />

classroom, the aggregate classroom time will be the determining factor, i.e., total<br />

time exceeds one-half (1/2) instructional day. Should aggregate mainstreaming<br />

time in a given classroom cause the total enrollment to exceed the grade level<br />

maximum, the remedial process described above shall be instituted.<br />

2. Class size for Special Education classes shall be determined by the rules <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Ohio Department <strong>of</strong> Education.<br />

3. This policy shall not alter the <strong>of</strong>fering <strong>of</strong> classes with small numbers <strong>of</strong> students<br />

nor treat the upper limits herein as required class enrollment.<br />

4. All new students shall be assigned, if possible, to the classroom in each building<br />

that has the smallest number <strong>of</strong> students. In individual buildings, all students on<br />

each grade level will be equally divided among the classrooms in order to equalize<br />

classroom enrollment.<br />

5. The teacher maximum pupil loads and class size limits do not apply to teachers<br />

dealing with musical performance classes where enrollment is subject to the<br />

permission <strong>of</strong> the instructor.<br />

D. Classroom Aides<br />

The Board will employ teacher-aides for the elementary <strong>school</strong> for whatever time is<br />

deemed to be necessary by the elementary principals, the appropriate director and the<br />
