Award<br />

The IESNA/Ledalite Architectural<br />

Products Award encourages and recognizes<br />

strong lighting research projects<br />

and papers by students in undergraduate<br />

illumination programs. To<br />

qualify for this year’s IESNA/Ledalite<br />

Architectural Products Award, candidates<br />

must be enrolled as full-time,<br />

undergraduate students in an approved<br />

academic degree program. All<br />

approved programs are those offering a<br />

substantial core of illumination studies<br />

and are either engineering or four-year<br />

engineering technology programs<br />

accredited by the Accreditation Board<br />

of <strong>Engineering</strong> and Technology.<br />

Architectural programs must be<br />

accredited by the National Architectural<br />

Accrediting Board. Interior<br />

design programs must be accredited<br />

by the Foundation for Interior Design<br />

Education Research or theatre programs<br />

accreted by the National<br />

Association of Schools of Theater.<br />

ANSI Approves ASHRAE/IESNA<br />

Standard 90.1-1999<br />

The American National Standards<br />

Institute (ANSI) approved Standard<br />

90.1. ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard<br />

90.1-1999, Energy Standard for Buildings<br />

Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings<br />

provides the minimum requirements<br />

for the design of energy efficient<br />

buildings.<br />

Also, complete errata sheets for<br />

ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-1999,<br />

Energy Standard for Buildings Except<br />

Low-Rise Residential Buildings, and<br />

the 90.1-1999 User’s Manual are now<br />

available for free from the ASHRAE<br />

website at www.ashrae.org/<br />

standards/errata.him and from the<br />

IESNA, as well.<br />

ASHRAE has also proposed changes<br />

to the International Energy Conservation<br />

Code that would make it equivalent<br />

to the requirements in ANSI/<br />

description of methodology, results and<br />

evaluation and conclusions. Papers<br />

must have a minimum of 5,000 words<br />

along with a 250-word abstract.<br />

Work will be judged on originality,<br />

validity, quality of scholarship and relevance<br />

to lighting. Team research will<br />

be accepted, however should a team<br />

entry be selected to receive the award,<br />

team members would be asked to designate<br />

which individual member would<br />

receive the award.<br />

These proposals will be considered by<br />

the International Code Council during<br />

hearings in early 2001 for inclusion<br />

New Recommended Practice on<br />

Industrial Lighting<br />

The <strong>Society</strong>’s Industrial Lighting committee has completed its revision of RP-7<br />

and submitted it to the American National Standards Institute for public review.<br />

Revisions to the document include an emphasis on lighting quality as well as<br />

appropriate illuminance suggestions for various tasks, updated information on<br />

equipment features and characteristics, and design considerations for specific<br />

industrial applications.<br />
