RECOMMENDATIONS FOR
Children and Youth
Learning Readiness
Advocate on behalf of Children and Youth to funders about the role of after-school programs and the impact on literacy
and strengthening with the goal of removing the barriers to accessibility.
Increase number of after school programs building on the current assets in Windsor-Essex County.
Ensure service providers include in their programs literacy, social skills, and other activities that strengthen children’s
assets.
Work with school system to identify alternative creative strategies to address literacy needs.
Clarify the role of Guidance Counselors for the students.
Encourage consistent application of the role of Guidance Counselors across the education system.
Societal Engagement & Competence
Advocate to funders and program administrators to reduce multiple barriers for accessibility to ensure equal access to
recreation services.
Advocate that subsidized social and recreational services are provided in the event National Child Benefit funding is
eliminated.
Encourage coordination between educational institutions and service providers to ensure there is distribution /
dissemination of comprehensive, up to date information about resources available to parents and children.
Increase opportunities for youth to participate in creating solutions regarding areas that affect them.
Increase opportunities for parents to participate in learning activities.
Identify and reduce barriers for accessibility to learning opportunities for effective parenting.
Work with organizations to identify alternative creative strategies that will increase the number of parent support
opportunities.
