ANCILLARY sERVICES NUTRITION COUNSELING/REHABILITATION SERVICES/sleep disorders center NUTRITION COUNSELING Nutrition counseling and education is available at New London Hospital Practices and the Newport Health Center. Our dietitians, Sarah Anderson RD, LD and Elke Melody, RD, LD are registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensed by the State of New Hampshire. Their specialties include weight management, chronic disease management, diabetes, pediatrics, sports nutrition, and wellness. They work with patients of all ages in a family-centered counseling environment. For more information, call 603-526-5229. REHABILITATION SERVICES Rehabilitation plays a vital role in restoring a patient’s independence in daily living, mobility and selfconfidence. Our goal is to give all of our patients individualized care for a safe, effective recovery in the shortest period of time. Rehabilitation services are offered in New London and at the Newport Health Center. 46 Rehabilitation Services include the following: • Aquatic therapy • Arthritis treatment • Back-to-golf program • Compression garment mesurements • Craniosacral therapy • Ergonomics • Functional Capacity Evaluations • Gait disturbance evaluation • Incontinence program • Lymphodema • Neurological disorders treatment • Occupational therapy (hands, wrists and elbows) • Orthopedics • Orthotic fabrications (temporary and permanent) • Physical therapy • Post surgical therapy • Splint fabrication • Sports medicine clinic • Student program • Speech therapy (language and swallowing disorders) An athletic trainer is located at Kearsarge Regional High School. Inpatient Care: Rehabilitation Services are available seven days per week, with the patient being seen within 24 hours of a written request by the physician. The state-of-the-art therapy services include physical, occupational and speech therapies. Outpatient Care: Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Services are available in New London at the New London Hosptial and at the Newport Health Center in Newport, with Aquatic Therapy available at the Mountain Edge Resort in Sunapee. All patients are assessed using pulse oximetry, EKG and other testing mechanisms. Sleep studies are interpreted by Donald Ayres, MD, Medical Director of the Sleep Disorders Center.
InPATIENT SERVICES INpatient care INPATIENT CARE New London Hospital is committed to excellent patient care, recognizing the special relationship between nurses, providers and their patients. HOSPITALIST A hospitalist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in the care of patients in the acute care setting. New London Hospital began a hospitalist program in August of 2004 designed to improve care for patients admitted to the hospital, as well as improve care for patients in the outpatient setting. Upon admission to the hospital as a medical patient, the hospitalist will manage all aspects of the hospitalization, including admission and discharge, ordering tests, lab work and coordinate care with specialists as needed. The hospitalist communicates care plans with the patient, the family and the primary care physician. The surgical specialists utilize the hospitalist for consultations on medical issues. All of the primary care physicians (PCP’s) of the New London Physician Practices group and the Newport Health Center participate in the hospitalist program.
