Omar Rienzi’ and Deborah replied, ‘Actually we do’. So
we went to Collector to see him and have a ride on him.
Mum had always liked him for some reason but thought
that I was too young for him a couple of years ago. Our
friends Sandi Frolich and Bell Widdison liked him too
and Bell rode him at the 2013 Morgan Show. I was a
bit nervous at first and so was Rienzi but when we both
relaxed, I really liked riding him – John and Deborah
were most generous to offer him for a trial.
Rienzi is now at our house and gets lots of pats and treats
that come with the house-side paddock. I have ridden
him every day and have had a few lessons. I took him
to a holiday camp with our friends and he was great. We
did some sports like bending, barrels and flagging and
he loved it. In jumping, he was awesome, he didn’t do
anything naughty. On the last day I took him swimming
and he LOVED it. He kept splashing and getting everyone
wet and I couldn’t stop laughing. My show jumping
coach likes the qualities he has and can see potential. He
said that Rienzi is brave and willing and also that he has
a good jump.
Although as a team we are not ready to go straight out
and compete, I still have loads of fun riding him in our
arena and jump paddock and training. We have formed a
strong bond and he is a typical people-friendly Morgan.
I am looking forward to the future with Rienzi and can’t
wait until we can take him to competitions – as you may
have guessed, he is no longer on trial – he is staying!
And even mum agrees (she was a bit horrified when my
SJ coach was pushing for a horse 16 hh), I don’t look tiny
on him – even though Rienzi now makes our ponies look
small and luckily he actually does fit in our little horse
truck!”
News from the Gready Family on the progress of India
and Red Bluff Country Rambler: “India and Red Bluff
Country Rambler have had a fantastic first year together!
After a few issues with water jump training early on, we
were thrilled when he went clear for a win at the Harden
Open ODE in the 80cm on a course he had never been
on previously. At the Pony Club State One Day Event
Championships it was a bit of an up and down day, they
were 1st after dressage, clear cross country but a shaded
pipe jump in the SJ bought them undone (along with
many others). After one stop, India chose to treat the
rest of the course as training, ending with lots of time
penalties which finished them in 10th place. At our Pony
Club Zone 21 Championships they were thrilled to gain
Champions in Dressage for 13-15 years, Show jumping
C grade (75 to 90cm) and even sporting champ for 13-15
years.
We travelled to Mirrabooka (near Moruya) recently for an
Eventing summer school where they had lessons in XC,
SJ and dressage. Unfortunately rain meant the protocol
day and ODE were cancelled so we made the best of it
