Sayre’s February Front Circle is all about the Spectacular. Interesting and beautiful auction items are
making their way into Old Sayre; volunteers are meeting to finalize details of the evening; the program
is going to print; power point presentations are being designed for the introduction of the seniors;
invitations are being mailed; reservations are being made for the big night.
Last year a record breaking $287,606 was raised - all the more impressive when compared to the
$17,000 the first Spectacular raised some 29 years ago.
A note from the Spectacular Chair, Amy Allen:
“This has been a fantastic year for me as part of the Sayre
community! Throughout the past months, I have developed such an
appreciation for how intricately we are all connected, how exciting it is
when people come together for a common cause and how generous our
Sayre family is with time, resources, ideas and smiles. Yes, I have
spent a lot of time on campus since August, but the experience has
given me a renewed perspective of what our children experience every
day: hard work, deadlines, asking tough questions, delivering on
promises, the importance of laughter, making new friends, reconnecting
with old friends, being surrounded by people who challenge
us and cheer us. This is exactly the village I want raising my children.
Everyone I have talked with is thrilled to know the Spectacular will be
held in the gym again this year. My goal is to “Welcome Home” and
create an evening for us to celebrate our friendships and continued
support of Sayre School. The Spectacular is an amazing event
coordinating efforts of dozens of volunteers, past year chairs and
committees, staff, faculty, students, donors, sponsors, underwriters,
advertisers. You can be sure there is something for everyone at the Sayre Spectacular because it is
constructed from little pieces of all of us. If home is where your heart is then I’ll see you on March 6 th !”

We offer you this early look at the Live Auction items in advance so that you can get groups
of friends and couples together to bid on trips and dinner parties. Take a close look at
the Progressive Dinner at Mt. Brilliant for five couples, Polo Cocktail Party for twenty and the
dinner party at the historic Brooker House, the home of Philip and Jane Scott Hodges.
A few of the LIVE AUCTION items that could require some pre-planning…
Extravagant Dinner Party
Enjoy the ambiance of the historic Brooker property,
owned by Philip and Jane Scott Hodges ‘87, while feasting
at this magnificent dinner party right here in the
Bluegrass. Five tables of eight will sell individually. You can
pre-purchase a table for $2,000 by calling Mary Breeding,
Associate Director of Development, at 254-1361. If all five
tables sell in advance, Jane Scott has agreed to add an
additional table for sale at the Spectacular. But the price is
anybody’s guess! Several tables have already pre-sold. Get yours now!
Progressive Dinner at Mt. Brilliant
Back by popular demand! Five couples will be treated to a
sparkling evening of hospitality and tradition with a
progressive dinner at Mt. Brilliant Farm hosted by Sayre
parents Becky and Greg Goodman. Each delicious course
will be served throughout various scenic and historic locations on the farm such as Man O’War’s Barn,
Russell Cave, Mt. Brilliant Garden, and the tranquillake.
Polo Cocktail Party
Enjoy a private, tented cocktail party for twenty at a polo
match at the Kentucky Horse Park in July 2008. Watch
world class polo players from Argentina, South Africa,
Canada, England, Mexico, and the U.S. Catered by
Harriett Dupree Bradley ‘79, the menu will feature a
selection of filling hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, tables and
Silent Auction
We are gearing up for another exciting Sayre Spectacular! You may have heard that last year's
Spectacular was held in the C.V. Whitney Gymnasium for the first time in several years. It was a huge
success and everyone seemed to enjoy having it back on campus after holding the event at Keeneland
for many years.
This year, Michelle Crouch Goodman '91 is in charge of the Silent Auction for the Spectacular. Thanks for
your support and please mark your calendars for the 2009 Sayre Spectacular. We would love to
celebrate with old friends!
Michelle and her committee have assembled an exciting array of items
including…
A complete tailgating package to follow our Kentucky Wildcats in style!
A Henry Brown luggage collection!
Jewelry!
Lunch packages throughout the year
A script signed by the full cast of a recent production starring Steve Zahn, Jennifer Anniston and Woody
Harrelson!
Spa and fitness programs!
Parties!
Faculty Fun activities!
A very wise three year old once said, “You can’t have a tea party
without any friends.” So call your neighbors, call your friends, call
fellow Sayre parents, and put together a table of eight. Make plans
now to bid together on packages, parties, and trips. Community
Matters everyday; Sayre is spectacular, especially at the Spectacular.
WE WILL SEE YOU THERE!
