GENERAL INFORMATION
For this course, you will require each day: Textbook -- unless stated otherwise
Notebook / Binder
Pen or pencil or both
YOU -- in class and on time
Your mind -- awake, in working order
Mark Distribution:
Term Work (tests) 45%
Term Work (projects + assignments) 35%
Final Examination 20%
_____________
= 100%
All assignments MUST be satisfactorily completed ON TIME (beginning of class). I will be reasonable
about due dates, but I do expect you to do things punctually. Assignments submitted unreasonably
late – with no valid excuse – will receive a zero.
Students missing a test will need to make arrangements to write the test the day they get back to
school. Be prepared to write the test during your spare or lunch; I will not let you miss a class to
make up for a class you missed. This leads to a space-time Einsteinian loop, and I’ll never see you
again!
If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to find out what material you missed the day before.
Ask a friend or ask me – but make sure you ask! Please don’t come to me 5 weeks after an
assignment was given and say, “Yeah….I missed some kind of assignment, uh, way back. Can I do it
now?”
Students are expected to behave with respect and courtesy at all times in the classroom. If a
student's behavior constantly disrupts the learning environment, that student will be warned. If the
unruly behavior continues, the student will be asked to leave the classroom. The student will NOT
be readmitted into the class until s/he has met with the teacher. These meetings will take
place after school.
Re: cell phones and mp3 players: I do not want to see these
devices in class at all when you are attending to a lecture, a
video, or a class discussion (sneaky Secret-Serviceheadphones-hidden-mostly-in-your-jacket-but-sticking-outof-your-ears
count for this, too.) For the times when we are
using class time to work, I have no problem if you listen to
music, provided it is not so loud that it is a distraction to
others. If you cannot abide by this, I will confiscate your
device and may leave it in the Office for your parent to pick
up at the end of the day.
