Course Descriptions:<br />
Basic of Nail Technology (ESN2AT) will introduce students to the fascinating industry of Nail<br />
Technology. Students will develop nail technology skills in the classroom as well as practical hands<br />
on applications in a real salon atmosphere. This course will expose students to many aspects of the<br />
industry including communication, professional image, salon safety, sterilization and sanitation<br />
procedures, nail composition, and use of tools.<br />
Manicure & Pedicure (<strong>ESN2BT</strong>) will allow students to use their knowledge from the previous course<br />
and apply these skills in a real salon setting. Students will learn about water manicures, hot oil<br />
manicures, nail shaping, polish application, massaging, nail art, specialty treatments, toe cures, and<br />
pedicures.<br />
Course Intent:<br />
The intention of this course is to build on basic knowledge, encourage creativity, and develop the<br />
necessary skills required to perform successfully as a licensed Nail Technician.<br />
Course Rational:<br />
Students will leave this course with a full understanding of Nail Technology while developing the<br />
techniques required in today’s beauty industry. The acquired abilities learned in this stage of program<br />
will enable students to continue to build on their skills as they enter in an exciting and ever changing<br />
occupation with vast opportunities.
Course Format:<br />
Lessons will consist of both theory and supervised hands-on practical work. Class time will include a<br />
combination of lectures, demonstrations, and cooperative learning. However, students will also be<br />
working towards building a clientele base and will be required to recruit models to work on in order to<br />
develop and expand their skills.<br />
Learning in a safe and clean environment will be mandatory and enforced.<br />

Course Policies:<br />
1. All SRSS policies and procedures apply to this course<br />
2. Regular and punctual attendance, effective use of time, and participation is expected just as it<br />
is required in the workforce and will form part of the grade (up to 10%).<br />
3. All students are expected to dress according to the rules laid out by the Apprenticeship Board<br />
and under the direction of the teacher.<br />
4. If inappropriately dressed, students will not be allowed to work in the salon.<br />

Equipment and Supplies:<br />
The following items will be mandatory for completion of the course:<br />
Full black scrubs<br />
Black soft sole closed toe shoes<br />
$40.00 Study Guide Fee for Nail 1&2<br />
Each student will be assigned an in school tool kit, which they will be responsible for. These kits are<br />
to remain in school at all times.<br />
Students are encouraged to purchase their own personal kit to use at home. These kits will be sold at<br />
a student price and will cost approximately $200.00.<br />
Please note that student kits will include just the basic supplies.<br />
Students will also need the following items:<br />
2 three ring binders<br />
Pencil crayons, makers, and scissors for projects<br />
Assessment:<br />
Nail Technology is divided into two parts. In each part students must receive a final mark of a<br />
minimum of 70% in both the theory and practical work in order to be eligible for the apprenticeship<br />
program.<br />
Term marks will be graded on assignments, individual and group projects, chapter tests, practical<br />
applications, attendance, and professionalism. A written and practical exam will be given at the end of<br />
each semester. A total of 400 hours is required over both parts of the Nail Technology course. Any<br />
hours missed per term must be made up before the end of the semester.<br />
Students are expected to submit their assignments on or before the due dates. Late assignments will<br />
require documentation or students must make prior arrangements with the teacher.<br />
