Ecological Management Plan for
LNG Facility Preclearing Activities
September 2010
Non-threatened
Species
Non-threatened
Species
Contains Eggs
or Young
No Eggs or
Young
• Removal and relocation of known nests to be undertaken by spottercatcher
in consultation with DERM.
• Surviving eggs/young to be taken to a licensed wildlife carer, where the
removal of eggs/young is required.
• Surviving adults to be released into nearby undisturbed habitat, in
consultation with DERM (as close as practicable to where the animals
were found).
• Species to be handled by a licensed spotter-catcher, in accordance with
the actions described in Section 6.3.2 above.
• Notify DERM within 24 hrs of any injuries or deaths.
• Consider relocating some tree hollows to undisturbed habitat to cater for
loss of HBT.
• Proceed with caution.
• Relocate nests and/or hollows where practical to do so.
6.5 Weed & Pest Management Plan
A Weed and Pest Management Plan (WPMP) (QCLNG-AUS-PMT-ENV-PLN-0535) has been developed,
which provides procedures to ensure controls to manage potential weed and pest species at the proposed
LNG Facility on Curtis Island. All site employees, visitors and contractors need to adhere to the
requirements of the WPMP.
Key objectives of the WPMP include:
no weed or pest species are introduced through construction activities;
the abundance of existing weed species are reduced;
maintain and enhance the biodiversity values of the site; and
no impediments to native flora and fauna from increased competition of weed or pest species.
The EPC Contractor will develop a feral animal eradication plan for the LNG Facility site. This plan will
outline procedures for managing pests, in consultation with the Department for Employment, Economic
Development and Innovation (Biosecurity Queensland).
6.6 Management of Unavoidable Impacts
While environmental design and planning has been incorporated into the QCLNG Project in an effort to
avoid or minimise adverse impacts on protected species wherever possible, some impacts on threatened
fauna are unavoidable as a result of direct habitat loss.
To compensate for unavoidable impacts, QGC have developed a draft Vegetation and Biodiversity Offset
Strategy (Draft Offset Strategy), which was provided in Appendix 2.3 of the sEIS. The draft strategy
described a number of offset-related goals, objectives and principles for the Project.
QGC has continued to refine the strategy and is currently in the process of developing a Coastal Terrestrial
Offset Proposal. This proposal underpins the provisions of the Draft Offset Strategy and focuses on offsets
that will compensate impacts associated with the development of the LNG Facility.
