Stop spending the little money you are
making on partying, girls and booze, you
aren't bowling yet- it is not yet time for that,
invest in yourself, in your art. Record your
music in proper studios, get a quality sound
engineer to work with you and always be
open to learning new things. Check out
other artist's offerings and make friends who
share the same vision as you. By friends I
mean contacts namely. Other artists, radio
music compilation staff, journalists and
editors of local magazines and art
organizations (you have nothing to lose and
everything to gain). All in all ensuring that
the publicity you get allows your work to
speak volumes on your behalf.
Your potential contacts are always looking
to make new contacts as well, but as I said
game recognises game so ensure that the
quality you are providing is worth being in
the big league. It is no secret that most event
organisers disrespect local artists; grow
above this by ensuring that your work and
behaviour is worth respecting. A good
reputation and work ethic goes a long way.
Have a standard and always be above it and
above all else listen and appreciate all
feedback whether positive or negative.
Sometimes the best advice might come
from your worst critic or 'hater' as you cool
people like saying. Lastly please remain true
to yourself, grow, learn and be influenced
but never conform. The last thing we need is
saturation of what we are already hearing.
