VISIT OF THE EUCHARIST
CONGRESS BELL TO
PORTARLINGTON
The bell will arrive to St. Michael’s Church on
Tuesday evening next at 8pm. The Congress Bell
calls us to gather together for prayer, to deepen
our appreciation of the Eucharist and to prepare in
practical ways for the Eucharistic Congress June
2012. On Tuesday evening a Holy hour takes
place from 8-9pm, during which we will reflect on
different aspects of the Eucharist – gathering as a
community, listening to the Word, celebrating the
Eucharist and living the Eucharist in our daily
lives. The combined communities of the parishes
of Portarlington and Emo are invited to gather in
prayer, an invitation is also extended to our
neighbouring parishes. St. Michael’s Church will
remain open until 10pm. People will be welcome
to ring the bell and to pray with the Icons that
accompany the bell. The bell will leave
Portarlington after the 10am Mass on Wednesday
morning.

Day for Life this year reflects on what it
means to live a full & happy life. It takes as
its starting point the words of Pope
Benedict during his recent visit to England,
when he said: ‘Happiness is something we
all want, but one of the great tragedies in
this world is that so many people never find
it, because they look for it in the wrong
places. The key to it is very simple – true
happiness is to be found in God. We need
to have the courage to place our deepest
hopes in God alone, not in money, in a
career, in worldly success, or in our
relationships with others, but in God. Only
he can satisfy the deepest needs of our
hearts.’

TOGETHER IN FAITH
October 2011 – Mission Month
October is Mission Month, a time when Catholics
are asked to remember the Missions &
Missionaries. At present 1,762 Irish Missionaries
are serving in 84 countries. The Society of the
Propagation of the Faith looks after the
missionary work of the church and encourages us
to offer the young churches our prayers &
support. More than €2.2 million was given to the
Mission Sunday Collection last year. The
Pontifical Mission Society offers an enormous

THE DELANY ARCHIVE
The Delany Archive cares for the archives of the
Diocese of Kildare & Leighlin, Brigidine Sisters,
Patrician Brothers and Carlow College.
