FOUR STEPS TO THE PERFECT RIDE THE EXPERIENCE A SPECIFIC FRAME is intended to deliver determines the materials we use, the design we select, and the manufacturing process we employ so that we can provide the maximum performance for that type of riding. DESIGN: Every FACT frame is optimized for experience-specific performance. Once our design and engineering team understands the experience that a particular bike is being created to fulfill, we prioritize a number of attributes, such as lateral and torsional rigidity for efficiency and handling; vertical compliance for ride quality; requisite strength and overall weight depending on the intended application. Then we engineer the shape of the frame to align materials to their best advantage. MATERIAL CHOICE: Every FACT frame employs materials that provide optimized strength to weight and stiffness to weight ratios. When considering carbon for a given application, our engineers primarily consider two factors: stiffness and strength. Stiffness is the primary driver in materials selection for road projects, because peak loads are lower on a road bike than a mountain bike, and because lateral and torsional stiffness are critical for efficiency and handling of a road bike. FABRICATION: Between the unsurpassed monocoque fabrication methods and multiple Lay-Up Schedule Development (LSD) revisions, FACT frames are as light, strong, efficient, and precise handling as possible. FACT road frames employ one of two types of monocoque manufacturing methods— Triple Monocoque or Az1. Our proprietary Az1 Sequentially Cured Monocoque construction method is unsurpassed in the strength and stiffness to weight that it yields. Our Triple Monocoque method results in best-in-class performance. By exhaustively revising the LSD, our engineers precisely tune the ride and performance of any frame. TESTING: In addition to test riders logging thousands of hours on every frame, we perform measurable, repeatable tests in our state-of-the-art lab. Our testing allows us to compare different revisions of our frames during the development cycle—the result is something you’ll feel on your next ride.
