THE 12 PAGES THAT FOLLOW are filled
with the most minute specifications for nearly every
part on most of our nearly 200 bike models.
Somebody, namely our seven-member Bicycle
Development Team, traveled the world in an effort
to source and secure every single one of those
components, all to improve every ride you take.. “
”There’s probably an easier and cheaper way to
assemble an entire line of bikes than the way we
do it,” says Senior Vice President of Bikes Bob
Margevicius, “But the only way to ensure that we’re
continually developing new technologies and giving
our customers the best bike for the type of riding
they enjoy is to develop or handpick every piece.”
A half-dozen dedicated team members including,
Andy Jacques-Maynes, Brandon Sloan, and Joe
Buckley, (Deacon James, Travis Widder, Marco
Sonderegger, not pictured), rack up more frequent
flyer miles than a federal air marshall developing just
the right drop bar for our Tricross, wheelset for our
Demo, fork for our Crosstrail and a million-and-one
other crucial decisions.
But a well-worn passport isn’t the only requirement
for making the cut on
“The only way to ensure
the Bike Development
that we’re continually
Team. “You’ve got to
developing new
absolutely love riding technologies and giving
and be obsessed with our customers the best
making it more enjoy- bike for the type of riding
able,” says Margevicius. they enjoy is to handpick
To wit, the entire team every piece.”
knows their way around
two wheels in motion better than most. Team leader
Margevicius is a former European professional road
racer who battled with Merckx; Sloan is a top-ten
finisher at the UCI Master’s World Downhill Championships;
and Jacques-Maynes a UCI ranked cyclocross
racer. “I can’t believe the number of ideas and
innovations that we hatch when we’re out riding,”
says Margevicius. “Which is a good excuse to get
out and ride more.”
