<strong>Nov</strong>elist, columnist & head monologue writer for 17 years for the Late Show with David Letterman, Bill Scheft made us<br />

laugh with his earlier novel, Time Won’t Let Me, a finalist for the 2006 Thurber Prize for American Humor. His newest work,<br />

Everything Hurts, is the tale of a “self-help fraud”, Phil Camp, who has accidentally achieved international acclaim writing under<br />

the pseudonym Marty Fleck. Camp/Fleck tries to find relief from unexplained chronic pain with the aid of another self-help<br />

guru, Dr. Samuel Abrun who tells him his pain is all psychosomatic. Of the book, author Richard Russo, says “How rare it is<br />

for a novel to be both hilarious & profoundly moving”.<br />

Solomon, a young Ethiopian, is swept up into Operation Moses, the joint effort between American and Israeli troops<br />

aimed at relocating Jewish refugees from Africa to Israel. Hoping to shield her son from an impoverished life, his<br />

Christian mother forces Solomon to declare himself Jewish and join the exodus.<br />

He is adopted by a Sephardic family and migrates to Israel, but the culture shock proves devastating.<br />
