COUNTING OUR
BLESSINGS

November is typically a wonderful time
in nursery school. Not only is it a time
to count our blessings, it is also a time
of real growth in our children. It’s
usually around this time of year that our
students have adjusted to the routine
of school. They have stopped crying at
the door when good-byes are necessary.
They have learned to trust their new
friends and their new surroundings.
They now start to direct all of that
emotional energy into learning social
skills, like sharing, following directions,
asking for help as well as shapes, colors,
numbers and letters.
Of course, having fun is critical to
learning. Whenever the weather permits,
the children love to play outdoors on
the playground or inside in the gym.
This month, we will spend a great deal
of time learning about Thanksgiving,
reading stories, singing fun “turkey”
songs, and making Thanksgiving art
projects. On the Wednesday before
Thanksgiving, we will have a “Pizza
Thankgiving” party. Everyone eats pizza
for our school feast and turkey cookies
that they make themselves. We sing the
Motzi and enjoy the many blessings we
see before us. Just watching the children
enjoy the party is a blessing for our staff,
but the best blessing is knowing that the
children have arrived at a special moment.
I’ve always said a silent Shecheheyanu,
thanking G-d for our wonderful Temple
and our growing school.
