LOOKING BACK, LOOKING AHEAD!
by Adi Zachor, Youth Director
Our 8 th – 12 th Grade, once again, did an amazing job leading services
on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur for our 3 rd – 6 th grade. Our
youth added their warmth and love to the High Holy Days.
November starts off with a huge weekend! The Harold & Ellin Lawson
Youth Institute is November 6 – 8, and is set to be an amazing weekend!
As this is the Bar Mitzvah of the Lawson Institute, (the 13 th year!) the
weekend revolves around “Growing Up The Mitzvah Way”. Our 7 th –
12 th Graders will perform mitzvot throughout the weekend for various
organizations, enjoy the out-of-doors (yes, warm clothes are needed!) and
end with a formal dinner and party celebration! This is definitely not one
you want to miss!
In October, our Young People’s Society (YPS), enjoyed dinner and a movie in Benton’s
Place, taking a nice break from homework to enjoy a relaxing evening of friends and food.
With the fall chill closing in, YPS also met in Pontiac for dinner at the Blue Note Café, and
waited anxiously to descend into Erebus, a four story haunted house that thrilled, chilled and
created a screaming good time for everyone!
Our Junior Young People’s Society (JYPS) had welcome guests to Benton’s Place! Chinchilla,
birds, snakes, spiders, alligators and more joined us for an eye opening look (and touch!) on
our “Creature Feature” evening.
We look forward to the months to come as our friendships grow and our Youth Groups
continue to flourish.
B’Shalom, Adi
OPENING THE DOORS
It is our pleasure to inform you of Temple Beth El’s
continued participation in the Opening the Doors Special
Education Partnership Program with the Federation’s
Alliance for Jewish Education. The program is designed to meet
the special learning needs of students in our religious school. As a
partnership school, we receive support services from Alliance and
funds from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. We are
grateful for this partnership which enables us to continue to provide
a positive educational experience for all our students.
Karen Myerson serves as coordinator of our special needs Hebrew
program in the lower grades. Temple Beth El is also the only Monday
Night School program that has a classroom solely devoted to special
needs students, taught for many years by Dr. Rosanne Miller.
