(IBTO), made a presentation explaining <strong>the</strong> country<br />

profile, structure, his<strong>to</strong>ry, objectives and work flow of<br />

IBTO. He said that <strong>the</strong> IBTO has central procurement<br />

Afghanistan<br />

Ahmed Masoud Rahmani, MD, MBA, National<br />

Direc<strong>to</strong>r, Afghanistan National Blood Safety and<br />

Transfusion Services, briefed <strong>the</strong> audience on "Mental<br />

Models Affecting <strong>the</strong> Blood Safety Services".<br />

He explained experiences and challenges being<br />

faced in his country in <strong>the</strong> field of blood collection<br />

and elaborated on Afghanistan's achievements in this<br />

field and <strong>the</strong> future plans and programs for improvement.<br />

He requested <strong>the</strong> <strong>ECO</strong> <strong>Member</strong> States for a<br />

positive advocacy <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> donors and o<strong>the</strong>r stakeholders<br />

for blood transfusion services in Afghanistan and<br />

providing any inter-regional training opportunities.<br />

Azerbaijan<br />

Chingiz Asadov, Scientific-Research Institute of<br />

Hema<strong>to</strong>logy and Transfusiolgy, in his presentation,<br />

gave brief demographic information of <strong>the</strong> country.<br />

He informed <strong>the</strong> Meeting about <strong>the</strong> his<strong>to</strong>ry and structure<br />

of <strong>the</strong> blood transfusion services in Azerbaijan<br />

before and after 2011 as well as <strong>the</strong> distribution system<br />

of blood services. He fur<strong>the</strong>r noted <strong>the</strong> remarkable<br />

growth achieved in <strong>the</strong> number of donors during<br />

trend of blood donation in Iran was explained by<br />

graphs. While explaining <strong>the</strong> donors' profile, he said<br />

that 45% of donors have repeated donations with <strong>the</strong><br />

number of male donors in majority as compared <strong>to</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> female ones. Labora<strong>to</strong>ry testing procedures of<br />

donated blood were explained and <strong>the</strong> aims, activities,<br />

achievements and international collaborations of<br />

IBTO Research and Education Institute were introduced.<br />
