with <strong>the</strong> <strong>ECO</strong> Secretariat, <strong>the</strong><br />

4th <strong>ECO</strong> Seed Association (<strong>ECO</strong>SA)<br />

International Seed Trade Conference<br />

(<strong>ECO</strong>SA-2013) and <strong>the</strong> 4th General<br />

Assembly Meeting of <strong>ECO</strong>SA were<br />

held in Istanbul on January 11-13,<br />

2013 in which more than 200 private<br />

Mirmahmu<strong>to</strong>gullari, while thanking<br />

<strong>Member</strong> States for joining <strong>ECO</strong>SA,<br />

which currently consists of 70 private<br />

companies and national seed associations<br />

in <strong>ECO</strong> Region, noted that<br />

cooperation among regional countries,<br />

seed unions and seed companies<br />

is essential for <strong>the</strong> success of<br />

<strong>ECO</strong>SA.<br />

The 1st <strong>ECO</strong><br />

Coordination Committee<br />

Meeting on Health Tourism was held on<br />

December 18, 2012 in Mashhad, Iran, on <strong>the</strong><br />

sidelines of <strong>the</strong> 3rd Conference on Health<br />

Tourism in Islamic Countries. The Meeting<br />

and public sec<strong>to</strong>rs representatives and<br />

seed sec<strong>to</strong>r specialists from<br />

Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran,<br />

Kazakhstan, <strong>the</strong> Kyrgyz Republic,<br />

Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey and<br />

Uzbekistan participated. The representatives<br />

of <strong>the</strong> <strong>ECO</strong> Secretariat,<br />

FAO, Seed Union of <strong>the</strong> Republic of<br />

Turkey (TURKTOB) and International<br />

Seed Federation (ISF) also attended<br />

<strong>the</strong> Meeting.<br />

After <strong>the</strong> welcoming statement by<br />

Mete Komeagac, <strong>ECO</strong>SA <strong>President</strong>,<br />

<strong>the</strong> Conference was inaugurated by<br />

Vedat Mirmahmu<strong>to</strong>gullari, Deputy<br />

Undersecretary of <strong>the</strong> Ministry of<br />

Food, Agriculture and Lives<strong>to</strong>ck of <strong>the</strong><br />

Republic of Turkey. Representatives of<br />

<strong>ECO</strong>, FAO-SEC and ICARDA also<br />

made <strong>the</strong>ir statements.<br />

In his inaugural statement, Vedat<br />

institutions, namely IDB, FAO, TURK-<br />

TOB, ISF and ICARDA for <strong>the</strong>ir support<br />

in <strong>the</strong> realization of <strong>the</strong> conference.<strong>ECO</strong><br />

Representative, in his statement,<br />

gave brief information on seed<br />

cooperation in <strong>the</strong> <strong>ECO</strong> region and<br />

called on <strong>Member</strong> States for <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

support for fur<strong>the</strong>r membership <strong>to</strong><br />

<strong>ECO</strong>SA. Private Seed Companies<br />

from <strong>the</strong> <strong>ECO</strong> <strong>Member</strong> States also<br />

held bilateral buyers-sellers meetings<br />

for extension of seed trade in <strong>the</strong><br />

region on <strong>the</strong> sidelines of <strong>the</strong> above<br />

event.The 5th <strong>ECO</strong>SA Seed Trade<br />

Conference and <strong>the</strong> 5th General<br />

Assembly Meeting of <strong>ECO</strong>SA will be<br />

organized in 2013-14 in Turkey or in<br />

Kyrgyzstan on <strong>the</strong> sidelines of <strong>the</strong><br />

International Business Forum on Seed<br />

in Central Asia <strong>to</strong> be held in Bishkek<br />

in September, 2013.<br />

was co-organized by <strong>the</strong> <strong>ECO</strong> Chamber of<br />

Commerce and Industry in collaboration with<br />

Razavi Hospital and <strong>the</strong> <strong>ECO</strong> Secretariat and<br />

was attended by <strong>the</strong> delegates from<br />

Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz<br />

Republic, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>ECO</strong> Secretariat.<strong>President</strong> of <strong>the</strong> <strong>ECO</strong><br />

Chamber of Commerce and Industry,<br />

Mohammad Nahavanvian, inaugurated <strong>the</strong><br />

meeting. In his opening remarks, he underlined<br />

<strong>the</strong> importance of promotion of Health<br />

Tourism in <strong>ECO</strong> <strong>Member</strong> States.<br />

The meeting deliberated on <strong>the</strong> agenda<br />

items and came up with recommendations:<br />

Developing regional arrangements for<br />

health /medical <strong>to</strong>urism cooperation was<br />

strongly supported and requested for active<br />

participation of all <strong>Member</strong> States in health<br />

<strong>to</strong>urism events/activities in <strong>the</strong> <strong>ECO</strong> region<br />

especially in <strong>the</strong> workshop in March 2013 in<br />

Turkey.<br />

The Committee agreed <strong>to</strong> have regular<br />

<strong>ECO</strong> coordination meetings alongside <strong>the</strong><br />

next Conferences on Health Tourism in<br />

Islamic Countries.<br />
