<strong>President</strong> of <strong>the</strong> Heydar Aliyev Foundation,<br />

announced in 2005 <strong>the</strong> commencement of <strong>the</strong> project<br />

"Life without Thalassemia" which meets all modern<br />

requirements of a Thalassemia Center and formed<br />

a company <strong>to</strong> attract people <strong>to</strong> donate blood for <strong>the</strong><br />

treatment of patients with thalassemia. Hajiyeva also<br />

presented information on <strong>the</strong> social status of <strong>the</strong> distribution<br />

of blood donors. Elsewhere at <strong>the</strong> event,<br />

Mahtab Maghsudlu (MD- MPH) Associate Professor<br />

of High Institute for Research and Education in<br />

Transfusion Medicine, Tehran, Iran made presentation<br />

on Self-sufficiency in safe blood, based on Voluntary<br />

Blood Donation. She defined <strong>the</strong> meaning of self-sufficiency<br />

in safe blood and its respective products<br />

based on voluntary non-remunerated, blood donation<br />

as well as <strong>the</strong> driver products.<br />

"Application of IT <strong>to</strong> blood services in Azerbaijan".<br />

While providing a brief his<strong>to</strong>ry on <strong>the</strong> application of<br />

IT in blood services in Azerbaijan, he said that new<br />

modern medical institutions are being constructed<br />

and existing hospitals and polyclinics renovated <strong>to</strong><br />

improve <strong>the</strong> logistics of all medical services and<br />

ensure that <strong>the</strong> young specialists acquire international<br />

experience in <strong>the</strong>ir areas of expertise.<br />

and blood-related products based on VNRBD.<br />

"Ensuring <strong>the</strong> security of supply and demand are<br />

important national goals, and countries may set different<br />

timelines for <strong>the</strong> achievement of <strong>the</strong>se objectives,<br />

depending on <strong>the</strong>ir health system development", she<br />

said.<br />

Transfusion Medicine<br />

Eldar Hadjiev, Senior Hema<strong>to</strong>logist of <strong>the</strong> Ministry of<br />

Health of Azerbaijan spoke on <strong>the</strong> "Principles of<br />

Transfusion Tactics and Component Hemo<strong>the</strong>rapy".<br />

In addition, under <strong>the</strong> auspices of <strong>the</strong> Heydar Aliyev<br />

Foundation and on <strong>the</strong> personal initiative of <strong>the</strong> First<br />

Lady, Mehriban Aliyeva, modern medical centers are<br />

being built throughout <strong>the</strong> country and major actions<br />

against various diseases and especially children's diseases,<br />

has been implemented.<br />

"The construction of modern diagnostics centers in<br />

<strong>the</strong> region is ongoing by <strong>the</strong> financial support of<br />

SOCAR. The introduction of information technologies<br />

in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> public health sec<strong>to</strong>r will in turn result in <strong>the</strong><br />

greater distribution of blood bank personnel, a reduction<br />

in <strong>the</strong> number of errors during various calculations<br />

and saving <strong>the</strong> working time by au<strong>to</strong>mation of<br />

drawing up registers and o<strong>the</strong>r documents. The integration<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Azerbaijani blood service institutions<br />

in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> unified data network will enable data <strong>to</strong> be<br />
