Considerable marl reported as <strong>of</strong> good quality was dug <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

vic<strong>in</strong>ity <strong>of</strong> Woodstown <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> early days, and <strong>the</strong> material is still<br />

readily accessible, as is also <strong>the</strong> llme sand, which occurs <strong>in</strong> several<br />

stream valleys near <strong>the</strong> town. Railroad transportation is available,<br />

and Salem Creek has been reported as navigable below Sharptown.<br />

It is now utilized as far up as Course's Land<strong>in</strong>g. Woodsto_n thus<br />

seems a favorable place for commercial development ()f <strong>the</strong> marl.<br />

The site selected is a field belong<strong>in</strong>g to Isaac K. Lipp<strong>in</strong>cott, at <strong>the</strong><br />

north boundary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> borough, east <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> road between Woodstown<br />

and Auburn, as shown <strong>in</strong> figure 3.<br />
