<strong>Course</strong> Levels<br />

All courses fall into one of five categories based upon their difficulty or area of support. <strong>Student</strong>s cannot sign up for either a LS or ESL course without the<br />

recommendation from that department. Examples…<br />

1. 0016A/B English 12 (no label) = basic level of a course<br />

2. 0014A/B Academic English 12 (“Academic”) = more difficult level of course for college bound students with “A” or “B” in last course in subject area<br />

3. 0202A Honors Earth Science 2 (“Honors”) = most difficult level of course for college bound students who want to challenge themselves with the<br />

highest level of academic rigor in the subject area – must earn a “B” in prior Honors course or “A” in last Academic course in subject area<br />

4. 0548ESL Algebra 1 (“ESL”) = English Speakers of Other Languages students only – requires teacher or counselor approval based on ESL testing scores<br />

– ONLY level 1 ESOL students may enroll in these courses<br />

5. 08402LS Algebra 1 Part 2 (“LS”) = Learning Support – requires case manager/teacher or counselor approval based on IEP<br />
