ADD should work with federal partners (e.g., Health Resources <strong>and</strong> <strong>Service</strong>s Administration,<br />

AoA) to include cross-training in aging <strong>and</strong> developmental disabilities for health <strong>and</strong> direct<br />

support professionals.<br />

State Disability Rights Centers need to ensure <strong>the</strong> rights of people with developmental<br />

disabilities are protected as states implement integrated care programs for dual eligibles.<br />

ADD, AoA, <strong>and</strong> CMS can support <strong>the</strong> development <strong>and</strong> dissemination of <strong>the</strong> assessment<br />

tools <strong>and</strong> caregiving materials <strong>the</strong> National Task Group on Intellectual Disability <strong>and</strong><br />

Dementia Practices is developing.<br />

Goal D: Better underst<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> age-related needs of people with<br />

developmental disabilities <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> best practices in meeting those needs<br />

through research <strong>and</strong> evaluation.<br />

Support <strong>the</strong> evaluation of ACA healthcare <strong>and</strong> long-term care reform outcomes for people<br />

with developmental disabilities.<br />

The federal agencies should provide supports for fur<strong>the</strong>r research to assess <strong>and</strong> underst<strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> nature of <strong>the</strong> needs of older adults with developmental disabilities <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir families.<br />

Use <strong>the</strong> findings of <strong>the</strong> National Institute on Disability <strong>and</strong> Rehabilitation Research,<br />

National Institute on <strong>Aging</strong>, <strong>and</strong> AoA funded supplements on aging <strong>and</strong> disability to help<br />

inform future research in aging with developmental disabilities.<br />
