Gear up for some real, earthy blues on this special
blues night at the Yardbird!
Eddie Vaan Shaw is a brilliant guitarist who has been
performing since age 11. He grew up in Chicago
in the blues community and was influenced by
Howlin’ Wolf, Magic Sam, Freddie King, Jimmy Reed
and Hound Dog Taylor, to name only a few.
Eddie’s guitar style is clean, and lightning fast.
With an unparalleled command of his instrument,
Eddie’s live performances are in the blues tradition,
with some great slide guitar, intense solos and
rock solid blues rhythms. He has been recognized
by Guitar Player and Downbeat magazines for his
excellence.
Eddie performs regularly in Chicago blues clubs
and frequently appears at the Chicago Blues
Festival, and other major U.S., Canadian and
overseas festivals. His recordings include Morning
Rain (Wolf, 1998), and Trail of Tears (Wolf, 2004),
and Asswhoopin’ (Self, 2001). He also appears
on Jane Austen Sings the Blues (Folkways, 2009),
a tribute to the late Bruce Stovel, who booked
blues shows at the Yardbird Suite for many years.
Eddie can also be heard on various Chicago
recording sessions, including Naked (North
Atlantic Blues, 2009), an acoustic duo album with
his father, saxophonist Eddie Shaw.
Eddie Vaan Shaw will be backed up by the Graham
Guest Band, Edmonton’s most popular blues band.
Graham Guest will be on piano, Chris Brzezicki
on bass, Dave Babcock on saxophone and Grant
Stovel on drums, all well known to Edmonton
audiences.
