The Boyup Brook town & the St Mary’s school community welcomed an
energetic group of 13 John Curtin Weekend volunteers to undertake a garden
project which was conceived many years ago by the students who are now in
years 6/7. JCW volunteers worked with individual students & parent helpers
to complete tasks including: Years 6/7 personalised stepping pavers, removal
of the old vegie garden, repositioning the tunnel, building new vegie garden
planter boxes, planting vegie garden, completing mosaic art wall hangings,
potting citrus trees. On Sunday volunteers were taken on a tour visiting a local
artist, to Roo Gully to meet the kangaroo’s & to Harvey Dickson’s Country
Music Centre to look at the shed, the rodeo arena & the tall men.
Feedback from the site: The St Mary school students had an opportunity to
talk, work & relate to the JCW volunteers & some great friendships were forged.
The overall weekend was a fantastic success & I am confident that this is the
beginning of a great relationship between Curtin & the Boyup Brook community.
Loved working in the playground with all the children & volunteers, I also really
enjoyed helping make lunch - Matt Gormly (Volunteer)
