<strong>2009</strong><br />
A total of 128 volunteers including<br />
students & staff registered for the John<br />
Curtin Weekend with a total of six areas.<br />
For the first weekend, the volunteers<br />
went to the village of Kampung Keluru<br />
Jaya. As soon as they arrived, they were<br />
welcomed by the Head of the Village. After<br />
which, the volunteers started in helping<br />
the community prepare for their ‘Majlis<br />
Ramah Mesra Aidilfitri’. It’s a gathering in<br />
conjunction with the Muslim’s celebration,<br />
Hari Raya Aidilfitri.<br />
For the second weekend, the volunteers<br />
went to five longhouses, Rumah Gingdan,<br />
Rumah Bundan 1, Rumah Bundan 2, Rumah<br />
Johnson & Rumah Jamesbiri. These areas<br />
are the Iban community. Each longhouse<br />
greeted the volunteers in the Iban traditional<br />
welcoming ceremony. The groups helped<br />
in the form of ‘gotong-royong’ (community<br />
clean up of village/longhouse), foster family<br />
house chores, farming & painting of<br />
rooms/facilities.<br />
