These data constituted material for <strong>the</strong> discussion on <strong>the</strong> impact <strong>of</strong> mesh size and material<br />

type on <strong>the</strong> length <strong>of</strong> cod caught. Using <strong>the</strong> data obtained for each type <strong>of</strong> gillnet, <strong>the</strong> following<br />

coefficients were determined:<br />

– selectivity coefficient;<br />

– <strong>the</strong> share <strong>of</strong> undersized fish retained, i.e. cod up to and including 34 cm.<br />

where:<br />

L – average, weighted length <strong>of</strong> cod caught in a selected type <strong>of</strong> gillnet,<br />

a – average mesh bar size in a selected type <strong>of</strong> gillnet, determined while <strong>the</strong> net was wet<br />

at <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> experiment.
